Want an upgrade in the 4D position. Holl isn't gonna cut it. Move him down to the bottom pairing. Would also like to get an upgrade on Kerfoot at 3C. Someone bigger and meaner. A tough winger with some skill in the middle 6 would also work wonders, think another Hyman or someone like Crouse.

Willing to trade Marner, Kerfoot, Dermott and of course Bracco lol.

Bracco was cut loose.

Lines/d combos I'd like to see.

Mikheyev/Matthews/Marner
Kerfoot/JT/Nylander
Robertson/Hyman/Spezza
Simmonds/Engvall/Vesey
Barbonov/Hallander/Korshkov

Muzzin/Brodie
Rielly/Holl
Lehtonen/Bogo
Sandin/Liljegrin

I think Hyman would be an excellent 3rd line center both offensively and defensively.

TO needs a true shut down d duo, that is not what Rielly is good at, Muzzin and Brodie should be able to handle the heavy lifting.

I'm surprised the consensus seems to be that they're a wild card/bottom seed playoff team. I think they're a regular season juggernaut. It's all about the playoffs though...

I agree with Hyman .
Kerfoot is traded then .
We would need another big winger to go get the puck in the second line.

I really love the make-up of the defense. On paper, it's elite. Perfect mixture of veteran, prime-age offensive defenseman, two shut down defenders, and two, maybe three defensemen who have yet to break out or are on the verge of doing so.

I think we might actually do a pretty good job protecting the house this season. I'm not sure by how much the GAA will drop, but I can see the team performing in the top-10 defensively, but also top-5 offensively from the back-end as well.

The forwards are hard to pin down right now, but I'm fine with the make-up so long we get Robertson on the third line and keep the fourth line structured with some speed on the wings and some bruising as well.

love the Leafs (I was born into it) and I'm content with the team. nothing more, nothing less
obviously that can change with how we perform this next season

Robertson needs to be on the first or second line, on some team. As long as Marner/Nylander are here, this would make the first two lines too weak physically. Also need a shutdown C. Not done yet.
The shut down Center is a relic of the past. There arnt many GMs left that still view it as a nessesary piece and I don’t think Dubas is one of them.

The OP phrased this question from a technical point of view but I'm answering from a personal point of view. I don't particularly like most of the players at this point.

That is all.

it's getting there,,maybe a few more smalls moves and maybe 1 medium one left i think.

Really happy with the team as is. Would like an improvement on the 3rd line but i believe its close to average. What Dubas did was take our depth on the wing and turn it into a solid D-core. Now if one of Rielly or Muzzin go down we still have 2 other top 2 D-men to cover whereas last season we were paper thin when that happened.

Biggest change we need now is a new goal song.

It's a good start, and hopefully he's not done yet. His direction has changed, but he needs more players that make the other team uncomfortable.

"We like our team,Barry"

and so do I.

Top guns Matthews, Tavares, marner ,Nylander, are great players. Save for Johnny, they've got some maturing to do as they learn what it takes to win. I believe they can be winners for us. Feels like they've been around forever now but they are still young by league standards, they have taken the time to learn and develop, and have term to figure it out. Hymans a beauty in the top six. Mikheyev was solid when he played last season, could be a good longterm fit (perhaps Robertson makes a case, the guy was an energizer bunny in the playoffs).

Top 4 d-men Rielly/Brodie and Muzzin/Holl aint nothing to sneeze at. Lehtonen could be a real wildcard, Dermott is still young and has potential. Sandin and liligren in the minors and developing well. Bogo's Bogo but he isnt Marincin.

Lots of looks for the Bottom six. Solid vets in Spezza and Simmonds (big year for simmer, book it).
Robertson/Mikheyev. One of these guys will be top 6, they other will make bottom six stronger.
From being a longtime lurker, not many on here are higher on Kerfoot than i am. Solid guy to anchor the third line which may see a carousel of wingers early on.
Engvalls, korshkov, anderson, vesey, etc. All decent options to fill out a fourth line.

we like our team barry

The defense is better and Simmonds,Anderson,Robertson bring energy. I don’t have a clue how this is going to shake out at camp. Vesey is a good energy guy bottom six too

By all indications there is going to be a Canadian division or, at least, a Canadian based schedule to begin the season which may bode well for the Leafs chances of making the playoffs.
If it’s a division, pretty sure they’ll make it, if it’s only a schedule then it’ll be another battle. Hopefully Boston doesn’t pull off any miracle trades and falls out of the top 3 in the Atlantic.

I don’t like that the caps flat and we will have to keep juggling 700K to 1 mill contracts for pretty key positions.

This is the way I look at the Leafs right now:

1. Trading away AJ and Kapanen...those guys are good and might have big seasons next year. BUT last year they struggled hard because of injuries and whatever. They only scored 8+13 goals.

Can Simmonds/Vesey/Robertson/Barabanov/full year of Mikheyev replace those goals? I think so. Vesey had 8 goals last year but before that he scored (17, 17, 16) so he should rebound. The bottom 6 isn't great but it wasn't great last year, so I think it'll be the same at least.

2. Brodie is a huge upgrade on defense. He's a solid 2-3 on a good team and is good defensively. He's not a perfect player but he's way, way better than Barrie and Ceci who were not great and should have been third pairing (barrie was on third pair in the playoffs and for parts of the season). Either way, Brodie and Bogosian and an immediate upgrade on Barrie and Ceci.

3. Mikko Lehtonen is awesome and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

4. Andersen sucked last year and hasn't been great in the playoffs. This is the first year he has a solid backup ever in Jack Campbell. Even when we had Curtis McElhinney, Babcock rarely gave him starts (only on b2bs).

A few years ago, Rask struggled for a few seasons and Boston fans wanted him out. Boston got him Halak, gave him 35-40 starts and Rask rebounded and was great especially in the playoffs.

I think Andersen might be better with less starts and when he's fresher in the playoffs. And if not, at least there's a capable backup there to take starts if needed.

5. In season upgrades are possible since the team isn't into LTIR. Even if they start the season a few hundred thousand under the cap, it will accrue and they can make a deadline deal to improve. The fact that Dubas has added picks and prospects this offseason will help with that possibility too.

In conclusion, I think this team is better than last year. It's not a perfect team but I think they have a legit shot of winning a round or two.

Can someone provide feedback on my lineup? Based on what we have at the moment - I would love to see:

Tavares Matthews Marner - Go big or Go home. Let the big money millionaires produce or hang.

Robertson/Mikheyev Nylander Hyman - Two forcheckers for Nylander since we know he won't stay in the corners too long. Robertson should hopefully finish Nylander passes if not sub in Mikheyev. We all know Zack will get the puck.

Mikheyev/Roberston Kerfoot Simmonds - Good energy line. Simmonds will keep Kerfoot from broken face syndrome. Will keep kid Robertson safe if he doesn't work out on the 2nd line.

Vesey Spezza Barabanov - This line should be able to get a good cycle game going. Barabanov is apparently good in the corners and a strong skater per scouting reports. Spezza will set up chances. Hopefully Vesey will finish.

Anderson - extra right winger - can replace Simmonds or Barabanov if they suck or get injured.

Engvall - Extra centerman and left winger.

Muzzin Brodie - Muzzin is better then Rielly at preventing goals and can launch bombs that will keep defenders honest. Brodie is a good set up man, skater and passer. This line meshes well with the top line. Without a proper point shot defenders will play too tight on Marner Mats n Tavares. Muzzin will also keep these guys safe. Rielly will man up but he's too skinny and gets punked around.

Rielly Hall - Send this duo against the other teams second best players and let Rielly feast with Nylander. Hall stays at home and can launch bombs occasionally.

Dermott Bogosian - Bogosian as a defending champion should start the season but I am hoping Lehtonen takes his job. Lehtonen is a natural LD but has experience at RD as well.

Lehtonen - Extra D

Andersen
Campbell

Getting Thornton or Weegar would shuffle things around on the bottom pairings.
