I wouldn't keep the super star line. Why would we want to be a one line team? Our strength is down the middle with Matthews and Tavares on another line. That line should only be used in last minute situations or on the pp.

We literally shot our self in the foot in game 5 vs Columbus because the Nylander line at center cost us a bunch of goals cuz they couldn't defend and our superstar line couldn't score 1 goal.

Spezza and Simmonds on the ice is the dream of players with even average speed.

You won't be seeing those guys in crunch time, so they don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Would have been better if Dubas could have identified some guys in their prime who could play a hard game instead of guys looking for a quiet retirement community.

The 3rd line is awful.

He was on the ice for three goals against. One goal was off a deflection. Another was when he came on the ice after a bad change and Anderson let in a softy. The last was an empty netter. You could really only fault his line for the deflection goal.

We did not lose because Tavares wasn't on the 2nd line. We lost because he didn't bury the chances he had on the 1st line. The chances were there.

We stacked the forward group as a last resort and it did work for a bit. That line came close several times to scoring. We don't have to stack them all game but we should start the superstar line to get the lead early.

Especially if we get Thornton as more centre depth. When we get the lead other teams have to take chances and thats when we rip em apart and put Tavares back down to 2nd line.
 
on paper this is probably the best roster this team has had since 2002 .............
its up to the players now

That 02 team was so fun to watch. I still don't like Jeff Oneal lol 2004 wasnt half bad either on paper

Belfour, Kaberle, Leetch, McCabe, Pilar, Aki Berg :) Mogilny, Nieuwendyk, Roberts, Sundin Nolan, Francis, Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Tucker, Domi, Stajan, Renberg, Reichel

I remember being so frustrated Quinn kept rolling four lines instead of giving Mats some help. Hope history doesn't repeat itself. Really excited to see this team next year.

Not until the goaltending changes.

Also our bottom six contains a lot of risk, as well as our 3-6 dmen. But no team is perfect, hopefully with the competition for those spots something useful will come of it.

Yeah, I hate that it looks like we're planning on running with Freddy again. Ugh. Was really hoping for a change there. My hope is that Campbell comes out strong and steals the top job.

Are we more like a Babcock team now?

Simmonds, BOGO, Size (Vesey), Veteran experience on D, Hyman lite (Anderson), goaltending depth.

Looks to me like fewer excuses will be tolerated in the room.

I hope so, but not sure I'm buying this yet. Brodie comes with the rep of a guy who isn't great at winning puck battles and he's not at all physical.

Other than him, all of the additions are depth pieces that may or may not even be regulars. Simmonds could be washed, Vesey can go invisible, and Bogosian was a guy who looked to be on his way out of the league before landing with the Cup winners. Anderson may not be an NHLer. Dell is just insurance but not likely an answer in goal.

Don't mean to be Mr. Negativity, but I'm just not convinced that the entire identity of the team has been transformed by these moves.

If Brodie is just another Gardiner then they’re in big trouble.
 
1- with leqfs top 6, they dont need the best bottom 6 of the league. Just guy who will do the right thing AND PLAYING HARD.

With hyman, mikheyev, robertson, kerfoot, barabanov, vesey, simmonds, spezza, boyd, engval, korshkov, anderson as foward. Holl, dermott, lehtonen, sandin, bogosian, liljegren as dman if anyone else sign.. Everybody will have to PLAY HARD and be good just to stay in the line up.

I don't think history is repeating itself. We're more like the early 2000s Senators that needed to grow up in a hurry and play a more mature game than the Maple Leafs of the 2000s. If we could marry the best qualities of the 2000s teams with the 2020s teams, we would be in serious business.

-3 but not his fault. Ok.

Why don't we focus on our strength and provide wave after wave of pressure like the Lightning. Instead of relying on one line to score all of our goals and a 41 year old Center who isn't even signed yet to play a top 6 role.
