Do we want Kessel and Phaneuf back for next year?

Well it's been reported that he was pissed when he wasn't dealt to Detroit at the deadline, I'd say the guy is expecting/wanting a trade.

That's just false. It was speculated that he was pissed when he wasn't dealt to Detroit at the deadline.

Literally all that happened is an analyst (Kypreos?) said "I bet Dion is pissed he didn't get traded". That's it.

Get rid of them both even if it means underpayment. Can't win with them need to start fresh.

It seems like Detroit is still a likely destination for Dion. I wonder if the Leafs would have interest in Holmstrom? It's very unlikely they move either Larkin or Mantha. But Holmstrom played very well with Nylander at the WJC.

1st
Holmstrom
Weiss

for

Phaneuf
+?

Though I don't know how likely Detroit is to give up a 1st.

I don't think they'll deal Pulkinnen now that he's had a good playoffs.

I'd want a 1st, Jurco, and Weiss for Phaneuf (no retention or +). Just not sure if it would be a 2015 or 2016 1st.

Phaneuf has value after seeing what Petry just got.

Maybe I missed it but that would have been a huge story had he admitted that.

When you finish with the fourth worst record in the league you have to be open to trading everything and/or everyone. I think that should be obvious.

If Kessel and/or Phaneuf could return us a nice haul of young talent then you obviously have to consider it.

But I would absolutely hate to see them traded just for the sake of being traded. That would be completely foolish. And blaming them for the position this team is in now is totally irrational. That kind of thinking is based on pure emotion and is not helpful.

I still don't think that he is a top pairing guy on a good team. I don't know if many teams view him as that, but we'll see. I think he is way overpaid, but that's just my opinion. I don't think he is in a class above Petry.

I think Petry is firmly a 2nd pairing defenseman being a RHD behind Subban who is top pairing.

Phaneuf can play both sides and can play top pairing.

There aren't a lot of teams where Phaneuf is not on the top pairing.

I think this is the most realistic of any of the Dion to Edmonton proposals.

I was fine with Nikitin and both the 2nds they have (EDM and MTL) - Pick up Dergachev and Meloche to add to the prospect pool, or Guryanov if he drops to the early 2nd.

Also, regardless of what you think about their on ice performance, I don't understand why people continually attack Phaneuf and Kessel's character.

I think in their time in Toronto they have carried themselves with class at pretty much all times and have generally said and done the right things the vast majority of the time.

I think it's very strange people crap all over Kessel for "character" meanwhile I heard some people suggest Seguin should be a Hart Trophy candidate. Seguin was traded from Boston for character issues, caused a ****storm with stupid comments on a radio station this year (with his captain to boot) and then was suspended the last game of the season by the team for off-ice discipline.

So people lament like crazy that we don't have Seguin on our team but then say Kessel needs to be traded because he doesn't have character. In what universe can that possibly make sense? It's completely irrational thinking.

I do realize the second half of last season was unbearable to watch. But you have to be careful not to make too many rash judgements based on that. Last season was a complete disaster for a myriad of reasons. It's dangerous to evaluate players based on that environment. I don't think anyone would have looked good playing in that circus.

I've been advocating for a deal like this for a while. It's basic and easily agreeable for both teams.

I think the issue is getting Dion to waive for Edmonton.

Dion grew up in Edmonton, maybe he wants to return home. They also have McJesus who can perform miracles. Doesn't Dion realize he isn't welcomed here by the fans and also very likely the management (salutegate, constantly leading the team to failure, Shanahan essentially saying in the year end press conference the leadership group is flawed). He signed 7 years for a reason, Dave Nonis was stupid enough to offer a fat contract of 49M.

I'm hoping for a little more than a couple seconds. They could easily amount to nothing.

I'd be very open to grabbing a young roster playing like Marincin and one of their seconds though.

If Marcinin was right handed sure, but in this draft, I am thrilled with 2 2nds. You know with the Edmonton 2nd, you're getting someone who slipped out of the 1st round too.

If you nab Pittsburgh's 1st or Edmonton's 2nd + a prospect or other pick, then I think it's a solid deal. There will be lots of players who go in the first round that people hadn't necessarily projected to go there which means there will be a lot of good talent early in the 2nd round depending on who slips.

Dion's wife didn't though.
Rest of your post is garbage.

Exactly, you always hear about those nice 2nd round gems (Weber, Keith for example) it is always nice to have a couple of bullets there, give us a better chance at some top notch prospects, especially in a draft like this!

Holmstrom last played in the NHL in the 2011-2012 season when he was 39 years old. Perhaps we can get Alex Delvecchio instead?
