Yeah, on his podcast this morning he mentioned he had some time left over and wanted to use it before it expired. I’ll give him the benefit of doubt but the timing is funny to say the least.

100% aligned on this. I'm a big fan of both moves. At the end of the day, I think the locker room also understands why these moves were made. Though I think they're also frustrated that they've seen these cap clearing moves be made, but no moves to actually improve the roster...



I don't agree with this framing. He tried to trade Trouba this off season, and Trouba used his negotiated rights in his contract to block the trade. If The Rangers org didn't want to be in that situation, they should not have offered Trouba a NTC.

Why are we expecting a player to waive a right they negotiated for absolutely nothing in return?!?!?


I categorically disagree with this. The leadership does not believe they have carte blanche. They are pissed that their management won't show them the bare minimum decency of meeting with them in person and talking to them. The most basic and fundamental things in a healthy work relationship.

If you want to call it his negotiated right then so is trading him and waiving Goodrow. You can't have it both ways. And threatening to not report is circumvention.

Correct.

It's a give and take. Players and their agents fully know that when they are negotiating protections in their contracts, they are also negotiating their vulnerabilities.

And then they get all Surprised Pikachu Face when teams use those vulnerabilities (again, that were negotiated for)

I can't imagine that's true and we just went all this time without Drury talking to the team. If that's the case, that's just unacceptable for management.

If the GM has to talk to the team frequently to massage their egos, it's a sign of poor leadership in the room. Which we obviously have. First time we lucked into bad goalies, and Crosby got injured. Second time we got the Caps, who weren't very good. Both times we got Carolina, who somehow we can beat. Both times we looked awful in the Conference Finals ... it appeared we were over our heads.

We're looking like the worst team in the league lately, there's no way we fell this far without a push. Won the presidents trophy and now the worst in the league.

I was thinking that too. Maybe there's something real to what he's saying but the more salacious he can make this the more readers he's going to hook. He's very much a New York Post journalist though I do think he's a Rangers fan too. He was gushing over them last year but end of the day for him it's all to be turned into some kind of entertainment.

He's different than the other beat writers. He can thrive off of confrontation.....like his battles with Torts or the bashing he took from Dan Boyle with his 'Who me?' playing the victim card. Boyle was to some degree washed up at that point though.

I think it was Brooks, but there was a report circulating. Though to be fair I'm not sure it has been substantiated. But what has been substantiated was that he blocked a trade to Detroit when he found out we wanted to trade him there. Either way he has made trading him difficult and sabotaged this season. So f*** him sideways.

But again - he blocked a trade to Detroit with his negotiated NTC that was part of his contract. If he's not allowed to use it, why does it exist? Why should he waive a right in his contract for nothing in return?

Flip the script. Imagine a player asked the team for something, a favor, not in their contract. You would probably be livid.

Again, the complaints are not that he got traded, or that Drury told him he would go on waivers if he didn't accept a trade. The complaints were around Drury & his (lack of) communication. Allegedly, Drury never bothered to speak with him in person or on the phone for ~5 months. The GM never spoke with his team's captain or had the decency to even tell him that they were going to move on from him.

Whether or not you think that's a valid complaint is a separate thing. I'm also not saying Trouba is not devoid of blame himself. He played really, really poorly. I'm glad we've moved on from him. But Drury's method of doing business and moving on from players and personnel, not speaking with people or treating them like respected members of the org, THAT is what is rubbing people the wrong way.
