Zibanejad for JT still just makes too much sense to me. I absolutely cannot see VAN trading away a young C like Pettersson just to please a 31 year old Miller. I'm sure Tocchet is in love with Miller but at the end of the day you shouldn't be moving younger franchise players unless really necessary.

I’m sorry, you clearly don’t know shit about the Canucks.

JT Miller has had equally bad stretches of poor defensive performances, laziness, pouting at teammates, quitting on plays, and being benched for long stretches of the game. Pettersson is the better player and every single Canucks fan thinks this.

Whether you like Miller over Pettersson is your opinion, but the objective truth is that Pettersson is quite literally the better offensive and defensive player and it’s not even close. Even when Pettersson is producing like a 70 point guy right now and playing like an absolute turd, he’s still one of our best defensive forwards. And despite his struggles, he’s looked infinitely better than Miller this season.

Miller without Hughes on the ice is quite literally embarrassing to watch. And he’s one of the worst players without him.
What about the playoffs where Miller was ya'lls best player and EP was worth about half his cap hit? Hell Miller was one of the best players in the league this past playoff (as he was the last few regular seasons)

I'll agree to disagree with you about their regular season performances. But the playoffs is where guys like Miller shine, while EP does his best Leafs impression

Ciao

I'm not really fond of either one of these players, but the discussion is fascinating.

If they don't like each other and can't get along then my first reaction might be, tough, work it out.

If that doesn't work, then I would probably say goodbye to Miller.

I don't think you sacrifice Pettersen to spare Miller's feelings.

I don't think we really have the assets, the cap space etc, but if possible, I'd love Petterson on the wings. I've always wanted him.

Trade them both to the same team just for the shits and giggles. I think Philly with Torts would be perfect. Let's have our first murder in an NHL locker room.
They gang up on Torts, kill him, and then Petey and JT bond over the experience of disposing of the body. Then Philly wins the Cup.

Petey's 2022/23 season was better than anything Miller has ever achieved in his career. It's hilarious you don't think a team wouldn't take a chance on a 26-year-old who has already posted 100 and 89-point seasons and is defensively responsible. You never would have expected JT to become the player he is today when he was 26.
102 in 80 (EP) or 103 in 81 (JT) is essentially the same best season.

But the thing is Miller's game translates to the playoffs. EP is useless there. EP has also regressed since signing his big ticket, that's a terrible sign

Why would Vancouver trade a top 10 player in the league for a cap dump?

Besides, they have Mika at home. His name is EP

i'd love to see this 5 man unit on the ice together:

berggren - pettersson - raymond
edvinsson - sandin-pellikka

but wouldn't want to pay what it would take to make it happen obviously

EP for Danielson + Sandin-Pellikka + 1st + Copp + Husso (cap)

Giving up ASP hurts, but I'd at least consider this because we need the scoring help. If Stevie could crack that trade off without losing ASP, I'd do it.
Bonus points if he manages to throw in Gus, Holl, or Petry to get Hronek back lol

Yep I hate to lose ASP but I'd take a swing on this if Vancouver would do it. I just don't imagine that most Canucks fans are interested in a package of futures + cap dumps. In any trade for Pettersson a lot of money would have to go back. I think they'd rather that cap come from a legit, current NHL player and unfortunately we don't really have many legit NHL players (that we can trade away). NHL GMs and a third of fans seem to believe that Chiarot is good so maybe he can offer a bit of value with money attached.

ASP being one of the main pieces is probably not too appealing to the Canucks. You're hoping that someday he turns into the smallish defenseman that plays like a fourth forward and runs your Powerplay. They already have Hughes to do that and most teams aren't paying a premium for two of those guys.

From the wings perspective losing ASP is brutal. We can happily move on from Danielson if Pettersson is coming back. We're subtracting a potential top 6 C to add a legit top 6 C whose age lines up well with our timeline. Unfortunately, ASP is really integral to our future on D. You trade him to get a star like EP, but it hurts. Add in the first and Vancouver is getting three really good pieces. We can afford to move them all and it really makes us better immediately having two quality centers in the lineup.

Miller seems to have these types of issues but is the kind of guy that you win with. You probably should ask the rest of the core who they want to stay and move the other guy.
No no no. You take a page out of Babcock's book. You secretly poll the players who they want to keep, then you go and tell the other player who voted to move him, and his obvious course of action will be to look in the mirror, do some soul searching, and become the leader his team needs and wants.

I mean tbf Marner and EP are pretty similar. The homers say they're elite offensively and defensively, yet they both seem to catch a massive case of bitch-itis when the playoffs roll around

Trade them both. Show the rest of the locker room that it doesnt matter who you are, if you are bringing down the atmosphere because you cant get along professionally, you're gone.

Tage Thompson for Elias Pettersson
Mika Zibanejad + Braeden Schneider for JT Miller + Vincent Desharnais

Zibenejad is like half the player. Terrible for Vancouver.
