Do Avs still trade Rantanen if they know he ends up in Dallas?

Probably, but it was always against 7x12+. Joining another contender for the same money is just a lateral move.
It sounds like his agent was a douche and rather than beg for him, COL shipped him out. Mikko was shocked by this and hurt, never considered signing in CAR, and I'm speculating but feels a little personal signing with DAL considering I bet nearly every team would give him $12M on 7.1 and obviously not all about the money since CAR reportedly offered more

For necas? Yes. Turning into a great trade. Colorado has to be the fastest elite team in the league now.

It’s always hard to say whether the player or the agent is driving the process. But, this entire situation from beginning to end really has the signs of an agent being absolutely brutal to deal with.

Dallas thinks they’re getting MacKinnon version of Rantanen, when in reality they’re getting the Aho version, possibly a worse version. Dallas’ best player might not be ready for playoffs and they may have just blew up their salary structure. He will help on the power play, for sure tho.
I don’t think we see 100 pt Rantanen or even 90 pt version.

Just hope we play dallas in the first round when heiskanen isnt fully recovered

The Avs don’t need to do that, they have Mack and Makar, they can challenge anyone head on.

The Avs should wish that Heiskanen is fully recovered, so we get the best on best.

Yes, for sure.

Colorado made a good faith offer ($11.75x8) and Mikko didn't take it. He held out on them before (signed night before start of '19-'20 season), so management made their trade. So far it's worked out really well.

Rantanen landing in Dallas is an interesting storyline for sure. But it wasn't completely unexpected and I don't think Avs management (or fans) have been fixated on the Mikko saga. Peace was made two months ago and the focus has shifted to the rest of the line-up.

I think you could ask the opposite question as well - does Mikko sign with the Avs if he knows he ends up in Dallas. He probably would have imo.

Avs are a much more balanced team today than they were 2 months ago. They look ready to contend again. Not sure they could accomplish this without trading him. I’ll say yes, they do the trade. Dallas doesn’t scare the Avs.

The team that baffles me with their decisions in all of this is Carolina.

Nah I think Dallas is on par with the avs.

Makar and MacKinnon are better than anyone on Dallas, but I think Dallas has a deeper team and good players at every position.

Colorado is happy with the trade. We got very good return. We like both Drury and Necas a lot.

Also Rantanen is a good signing for Dallas maybe short-term but I don't believe its going to age well. It will handcuff and destroy their team depth, exactly what happened to us.

I'd do the trade again even if I know Rantanen goes to Dallas, which was definitely upsetting or is upsetting but at least we have good rivalry for few years now..

If Avs and Stars face each other in the playoffs, it's going to make for an interesting storyline. \

And I hope Avs and Canes fans don't boo Rantanen. They should be giving him a standing ovation with a nice video tribute.

Personally, I would have gone through with the trade anyway. We got good players in Necas and Drury.

Aside from the stats Mikko has brought in recent years, it's been really hard to see him at times purely from the eye test. I think this change will be good for both Mikko and the Avs.

I wish Mikko all the best and ill never forget what he did for us, but of course I hope he doesn't perform at dallas like he did with us.
In Carolina, he could have led the nhl in points for all I care :).

Overall, I think mikko and his agent overplayed their hand. In my opinion, the Avs did everything right here.
