Do Avs still trade Rantanen if they know he ends up in Dallas?

It’s 12m in Texas dollars

In Colorado you gotta add like 12%. Yall had to offer 13.2 or whatever to match 12m Texas dollars.

The players care about the pay that goes into their accounts not the aav the league reports.

Isn’t it fun that the salary cap is actively preventing parity! Sure is. (I’m from MO and my state is about to go tax free so you’ll hear me complain about this exactly 0 times when we’re signing Marner this offseason)
Haha, very true. And good for you!

Still though I'm just so mad at the number. I know taxes come into play but GOD. I was expecting like $13.5 or $13.75.

$12M?!?! That's $0.6 / yr less than MacKinnon and the cap is going up tremendously. I'm so sad and mad at our front office. I just wish we could've made it work.

If hindsight was in play, they would know how well Necas and Drury have done for the Avs and would make that trade everyday of the week I am sure. Was rooting for Rants staying out east when he signed with a new team though, will be harder to be a fan of the guy now though in Dallas lol. Will always be grateful of him for being part of the team that won the cup in 22 though

Glad we didn't. You're operating entirely on emotion here
I am operating on emotion. I do feel Rantanen is worth every penny of a $12M AAV.

If the cap increases as expected a $12M AAV equates to this in the next 3 years:

25-26: $11.4M
26-27: $9.82M
27-28: $8.52M

I just cannot believe we let this guy go for that amount. 4th place in scoring over the past 5 seasons.

We didn't let him walk lol wtf

Also wrong
You quoted me too quickly I added the "Traded" part.

And thanks for nit-picking an English grammatical error instead of replying to the information or substance in my post. I would prefer you reply with your own thoughts or reasoning for why you believe your position/opinion is correct.

Oh I quoted you too quickly - my fault obviously!

There's no substance. You're just wringing your hands about things you can't control

I blame Mikko’s agent for how this unfolded. Doubtful things happen the way they do if the Avs offer was 11.75 and Mikkos agent was countering with 12. That’s close enough to still have a conversation. It will be interesting to learn these things one day if it ever comes out, But what seems more likely is that Mikkos agent wanted to put pressure on the Avs to sign him for 13 or more by playing the long game and waiting it out before accepting a lower number like 12. That was the noise at the time. The cap is going up and guys like Rantanen will get 13 plus. His camp was adding to that noise. Mikkos agent was difficult to deal with last time and that might have also factored in. Not until Mikko was traded did Mikko say he would have stayed for the low 12s. This went against everything that was being said publicly about 13+.

Tell ya what. I am going to re-post and bold my opinion and information below. If you choose not to state your opinion or counter then have a nice day. Btw the underlined in your post is good stuff, of which substance have you provided?

I think he's regressed as a player and isn't worth 12M on our roster. You have a great rest of your day - hopefully you can recover from this emotional devastation.

I disagree. He is 4th place in offensive scoring over the past 5 years. The 3 guys ahead of him have a higher AAV than $12M.

I think he is worth all of $12M especially on our roster. If you remove his rookie year he is lifetime 1.2PPG with the Avalanche, we have all seen first-hand how good he is on our roster, alongside MacKinnon and playing in our system. He may be worth more to us than most other teams.

In my opinion he is without a doubt worth $12M to us, I would've even gone to $12.5M if it was for 8 years.

You should buy a Rantanen Stars jersey 🥰

The team that baffles me with their decisions in all of this is Carolina.

What’s baffling about it?

The version of Necas that’s putting up all these points as the hype man to two Hart Trophy candidates was never going to happen in Carolina. They were living with the version of Necas who was asked to carry a line, to be a key contributor on the PP, to at least play a strong possession and two-way game, and never quite stepped up to that level with any consistency. They knew that he was going to ask for first-line-star money next year. So it became a matter of when, not if, they moved on from him.

This year they realized the Avs were in a comparable position with Rantanen. Rather than sit around and wait for next year’s TDL to trade Necas for a 2nd, they made the kind of bold move that people always say the Canes won’t make. They acquired Rantanen with clear intent to sign him long-term and make him a cornerstone for the next several years.

If Rantanen had arrived as advertised, it would have been a great deal for both teams, solving both their problems. Not only did Rantanen put up third-line numbers while skating on the first line and first PP unit, he sulked and moped and then cut off contract negotiations.

Rather than hold on to an obvious losing card, they dealt him again. Getting Stankoven + two 1sts + a prospect for Necas + 2nd + 4th wouldn’t have been seen as “baffling” if it were the original trade. Ultimately they got that package (plus the Hall/Drury swap) on the back end of the deal, rather than just let Rantanen walk away for free.

Is it the way they planned it out, no. But that’s the nature of a risky move. They took a shot, it didn’t pan out, they pivoted. Not baffling.

So you're basing that off 13 games? Sure Dallas doesnt have a Mack but playing on a line with Robertson and Hintz Rantanen is going to do well!
He's still not going to score as much points as he did with Colorado. And it's not just because of Mack even if Avs fans are going to say it is.

MacKinnon plays close to 23 minutes per game. Rantanen had an average of 22:30 with the Avs and played 19:49 with the Canes. Robertson gets 17:50 with the Stars and Hintz gets 16:57. It's inevitable that his scoring is going to go down because Dallas is a super deep team that doesn't have to overload their top line like the Avs do.

I think you could ask the opposite question as well - does Mikko sign with the Avs if he knows he ends up in Dallas. He probably would have imo.

Avs are a much more balanced team today than they were 2 months ago. They look ready to contend again. Not sure they could accomplish this without trading him. I’ll say yes, they do the trade. Dallas doesn’t scare the Avs.

The team that baffles me with their decisions in all of this is Carolina.
I mean, excuse our front office for actually going out to get a 40 goal scorer the past two years to make a run for the cup, rather than just adding one rando guy at the deadline like they used to.

Its not their fault these pricks piss their pants upon being traded to a really solid team and then head for zee hills. They gotta at least try.
