It was time to make a change, but I still feel badly for DJ.

He was the head coach of an organization run by Eugene Melnyk (an all-time terrible owner) and Pierre Dorion (an all-time incompetent general manager). The cards were stacked against him and I thought, under the circumstances, he did an okay job for a while here. Certainly we've seen worse.
He had a good run as a HC in the NHL ... much better chance given here than anywhere else. He was only up for part of the job. That ended about 2 -3 years ago. He will be coaching somewhere soon. Bye Bye. I have zero hard feelings .. it was past due

As soon as Jacques Martin was brought back into the organization, wasn't this inevitable?

I agree that more should be expected from the players, especially defensively. How has Korpisalo been?

Korpisalo has been hot and cold. He's made some great saves, and has had a few great games, but has also let in some real stinkers. More than you'd like.

Goalies have been impossible to evaluate under DJ Smith though. They've all sucked.

1. I think management hoped Jacques in an advisory role would be enough to turn the tide. Looked like it was working for a while but the wheels are off now and something had to be done.

2. Korpisalo has been generally decent despite his numbers but he's not getting much help. With a little support I expect he'll be adequate. Forsberg has looked much worse.

Hard to tell how Korpi is with the defensive tire fire in front of him. Hopefully we get a better read in the next 56 games.

I'm not expecting a new coach bounce based on the fact that this entire core of young players have all learned the "NHL ropes" playing under DJ and it'll take a while to deprogram all of the bad habits before things can turn around. It's not similar to the Blues, Oilers and Wild situations at all.
Except those teams won their first games with the new coaches and have since maintained a positive record.

Some fans seem to think korpisalo hasn’t been bad. But truth is. He has been. Habit of letting in hilarious goals. Can’t play two good games in a. Row. Will play good and then will immediately sink us.

Happy they finally made a change but file this one under the too little, too late category. Unreal that it took this long but what are you gonna do as a fan, right?

Jacques is here to be fired.

Staios is here to be fired.

Alfie the same. Life of a sports front office
Jacques is here for the short term as interim Head Coach; I don't think he wants the permanent job.

Alfredsson is AC because Staios decided that Payne must go too. I wonder if Alfie wants the AC job on a permanent basis. The media release did not indicate it was interim or temporary.
