Maybe I'm optimistic but I think the players can turn things around quickly.

They want to learn. DJ just didn't have much to teach them.

I am looking forward to wins and good hockey. It's so disappointing to have another season where by the end of November, the season is over for anybody but the most hardcore of hardcore fans. This coaching change at least makes the games more interesting from this point on, since we can see how they respond.

If we start to win, people are going to be upset that we'll move from a top 5 pick to a 10th-15th type pick, but I don't even care about the draft position anymore. Winning, even if playoffs are out of hand, is more important in the long run.

Playoffs are almost certainly not happening, but we need to end this season with some positivity, wins, and good hockey.

Some coaches have commented on how they have had to change and adapt based on the temperament and personality of the current generation of players compared to previous generations.

Martin has been around recently in the NHL and Junior, and isn't coming out of retirement or anything, so it makes me wonder if what he did 20 years ago to teach or motivate players may not be the same as what he would do now.

I think Martin is a fair methodical coach. The players who can't adapt to him should be traded.

Needed the shakeup. These players are too comfortable. Let's see how they perform picking up some new ideas and listening to a new voice.

All the best to DJ. He had little to work with since he started. Some young guys made big strides under his tenure though.

A change was necessary. This one was easily available.

My expectations is the will take a couple steps back while making adjustments.

Forget Playoffs this year. IMO probably next year too.

DJ is another victim of Melnyk's reign of terror and Dorion's reign of error - he was a dead man walking ever since the team was sold. I'm actually happy for DJ today, he's a good person, and the past few months must have been very stressful on him and his family. I hope he gets a fresh start in some capacity with another team soon, he deserves it.

I was convinced Martin, since he is in his 70's, was not interested in being head coach anymore.

I was on the "keep DJ for the rest of the year and tank" but since Martin was an option, this makes a lot more sense.

Cool to see Alfie as an assistant as well.

I didn't want to hire an interim, because I wanted to promote from within.

It was time to make a change, but I still feel badly for DJ on a human level.

He was the head coach of an organization run by Eugene Melnyk (an all-time terrible owner) and Pierre Dorion (an all-time incompetent general manager). The cards were stacked against him and I thought, under the circumstances, he did an okay job for a while here. Certainly we've seen worse.
