Gotta say I enjoy Jacque's frank comments after games. He knows who is a good fit and who isn't. It will be up to Staios and company to come up with some creative ways to find players that will fit what the new regime identifies as a base for success! A real test!

Is this one of the all-time worst coaching changes? Like, what the f***? We've regressed in every single category. In just 11 games, we're looking at our 5th game losing by 3+ goals. What is this coaching staff telling the players to do? How are they worse across almost every statistical category? They haven't improved at literally anything. Not a single thing. There's nothing better about their play in any facet of the game. How is that possible? Sure, we don't need to count wins and losses at the beginning of a coaching transition but what the f*** are we supposed to be looking for?

The problem is between the players ears.

So they change the coach and the players get dramatically worse at everything? Christ, we were over 51% in faceoffs with DJ and we're at 47% under Martin. Claude Giroux was winning over 55% of his and now under Martin he's 45.8%. Does Giroux also have problems between his ears? Guy has been fantastic at faceoffs his entire career and suddenly his FO% drops off a cliff? What the f*** is going on?

So you're telling me that Martin made them worse at face-offs? Do you think they were practicing more face-offs under DJ? It didn't matter if we were good at face-offs, we were still shitting the bed nearly every night under D. We had a .500 record or less. This teams problems are between the ears. Stat fall-off is related to it. We don't have goals, we can't keep leads and we have shit goaltending.

Do you think Jacques Martin is making them lose faceoffs or something?

Giroux also scored twice tonight and has been fine. It’s the core that can’t do anything. They have never faced any true accountability or pressure before. They spent the last few years being told they were going to win a cup eventually. When things went wrong, Dorion found scapegoats, DJ said they were young and still learning and the fans blamed Dorion/DJ/vets. Now there is no one left to blame but them, and they clearly don’t know how to navigate it.

This has nothing to do with Martin. It’s about the fact that for years they had fun and when they failed there were no consequences.

Their game has to be torn down and rebuilt without the bad habits. It's going to take a lot of time because these guys are either very stubborn at keeping their padded stats, or are low hockey IQ guys that need a lot of time to learn. Or both.

Either way, it's going to be like this for awhile before things click.

Well for one thing, he can’t always be on the ice to run practises, or whatever on game days… he delegates that to Alfie and the other assistants….. he’s in his early 70s, and the day to day rigours of a NHL head coach are not his wheelhouse, consulting is….. 3 wins, 8 losses…. ZERO points in 2024…. The rookie GM better get in a capable Head Coach asap.

J Martin has the Senators playing at a .273P% since he took over as (interim) Head coach…… he has been with Ottawa since December 6th, evaluating and consulting….long enough to send messages and know who to play, and who to sit….it’s time for the rookie GM to bring in a Head coach, that the players know will be the Head Coach next season….right now they know it’s like when there’s a substitute teacher in highschool, they’re going to be here long than J Martin will be head coach….. Berube is willing and waiting…. What is the rookie GM waiting for, a .250 P%?
