"Note: If the co-hosts for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (Germany and France) end up in positions 7 and 8 in Group B during the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, only one team will be relegated – the 8th-ranked team of Group A – and only the winner of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A will be promoted."

Got to think Hungary might be a team headed for relegation this year, really don't see them staying in the top division.

Is that Lithuania's biggest win in it's history?

Working from home today, caught a stream of it. Wow, they still have an outside chance of going up if Ukraine can beat GB, and Croatia realizes they have very little to play for.

Before last round:
GBR 11
LTU 9
UKR 9
CRO 6
EST 1
ROM 0

First 3 places will be decided in last round. Ukraine still can win promotion.

Lithuania can still win promotion. Actually I'd say Lithuania has better chances to get promoted than Ukraine does. GB shouldn't blow this though they only need a point.

GB ***** up big time vs Estonia.
That OT can doom them.
I still can't believe that they couldn't beat Estonia in regular time.

Estonia is their Achilles' heel, last year they basically had promotion in the bag but lost their final match against them.

Congrats to Lithuania! Pretty weird to think that they have won a country we could lose to 10 years ago.

Maybe they played at 120% against Croatia and then entered tired in b2b game.
Still, you can't afford to lose points against Estonia when battling from promotion.

The average age in the Ukrainian national team went from 28 in 2006 to 29 in 2007, 30 in 2008 and to 31 in 2009. You get the idea.

Their team has completely changed since 2006. Not only because there wasn't any new talent being produced at that point, but also because of political reasons over the last couple of years. There's a reason they're playing in Div1B.

But Lithuania did play well, considering they're missing a bunch of players. The Krakauskas kid would play on one of the top lines on our U20 national team. So hopefully they'll actually make it to DivIA at some point in the near future. Preferably without us being there, though, although it would be nice to face Lithuania after such a long time.

Just like last year? :D

Good point. Hopefully for them the lightning doesn't strike the same place twice.

Lot like Namejs said, this Ukrainian team is actually Ukrainian and is missing a lot pf players too, including pro-Russian ones that would be available if times were different. With Gaiduchenko, Kugut, Ladygin, Skripets, Belukhin, Kvitchenko, Materukhin, Padakin, Toryanik, Varlamov, Kasyanchuk, Lyalka and Ponikarovsky they would be an entirely different team.

At the same time, the drop of in talent produced by the program is obvious. A lot of those players listed are 100 years old.

It wasn't a back to back game, there was a break day. I think Ukrainians just took it easy more than anything, especially since they had the lead for most of the game. Seeing opponents lose 8-0 few days before does that to your morale, I guess. Lithuania, on the other hand, understandably played with real fire in their belly.

So today 1A starts and I'm not able to watch Poland's opener vs Italy because my cousin gets married next week and we're having him his bachelor party all day long.
Hope we get off to a good start. I feel like this is a group in which everything could happen and a win in the first game in front of a sell out home crowd would be huge.
I'll be scoreboard watching all game long. Hope I'm not too drunk by that time..

It was a b2b game. Pause was between games vs Estonia and Lithuania.
But really, this can't be an excuse. Estonia plays OK, but is still inferior to first 4 teams in 1B.

If Ukraine wins against GB, small part of me will cheer for Ltu against Croatia tonight. Would be neat to see them promoted.
