That's the first legitimate penalty against austria although they already had 7penalty mins

Slovenia leads 2-1 after 2 periods. Slovenia and Italy advance to elite division with a Slovenia win in regulation, Slovenia and Austria go up if it doesn't end in regulation. Not looking good for Poland having a shot right now

Austria already won 2 Games after being down after two periods. But if austria scores the 2:2, both teams probably play for ot. So yeah, after a second thought you are right. Not looking good for poland

Make no mistake...we're not a clutch team...

Stefan Ulmer again can't control his anger issues. He's our top defender present, we need him on the ice, not in the box...

Can't watch the third period :( but i somewhat understand him. The game should be tied at worst. But not really an excuse if it was a dumb (and legitimate) penalty

Slovenia wins 2-1 and advances to the top division and barring a miracle by Hungary, Italy moves back up to the top division as well.

I mean this was deserved. Dan Ratushny is on his way out and only selected players he had man-crushes on. Robert Lembacher? Stefan Geier? His selections were all jokes, we put out a full on B team and for some reason still assumed we would win. Ratushny teams suck on offense and that's ridiculous, all Austria is supposed to do is score goals. He's gone after this season but he deserves to go, this was a real sham, and fielding a B team is no excuse because we should still be advancing with a B team.

Don't really deserve it when you lose against poland but getting screwed in the most important game hurts

I hope austria gets someone like klopp as coach. His Teams always play to their best when there is almost no hope left

Wow Austria looked really bad second half of the tournament, not even close to a top division team, surprised Slovenia only won by one goal in their final game. Overall gutsy performance by Italy to sneak into that second place, now they have to pray Germany or France don't end up in a relegation spot. Now Poland plays Japan with no serious implications, unless Poland cares about 3rd place so it looks good on paper. Either way no significant pressure on either team so should be fun wide open hockey to watch.

It's not enough if just one of France and Germany is placed last, they'd both have to be the worst two teams in the group. Both teams actually have rather solid teams this year so the likelihood for such a scenario is practically nonexistent and not something that the Italians should be worrying about.

Most of the names floating are either north American or Swedish.

Ratushny's flaw was that he selected players he had crushed on, not good players. He left Altmann, Nödl, Koch, Lange, I could go on and on, he only brought 8 or 9 players from out standard team, and some of the backups weren't even the best B-teamers. Overall he treated this tournament like a joke and that's how the team played.

Yes, I meant "and" not "or", typo. Agree it's a long shot they would both end up in the two last spots, especially Germany.

Man, if only we had won that game against South Korea. It's a shame we were able to beat both Slovenia and Austria and still don't get promoted.

5-0 vs Japan after ~15 minutes including two PPG and two SHG. Looks like we want to finish this tournament off on another high note.
Still a great tournament for Polish hockey.

Edit: 6:0

I sincerely did not see that coming. Of course this Italy is not anywhere close to be a legit top division team, but it has guts and organisation. If there is a record for the most blocked shots in a tournament I think it is now shattered.

25-9 shots after 1st period. Can we have a rematch from the first two games please? :D

And some Canadians

Not anywhere close to the amount of Canadians they iced just two years ago.
I think that this year there were only 4 players with the double citizenship and two of them (Scandella and Tudin) have been playing and living in Italy pretty much all through their pro carreer.
Two years ago the double citizen in the roster were 12 and they did not prevent Italy from playing horribly anyway.

Not that I have anything against icing players that according to the rules can be iced, but if the team has to suck anyway then I prefer if they do that icing some Italian-formed young players like this year.
