:laugh::facepalm:

Ridiculous statement. No one is saying the US are the best team. This got started because I said they’re not the worst team out of Poland, Netherlands, and Australia and that those teams were a much more viable path to the semis than England who at the time we’re looking at a bracket with Senegal, France, and Argentina. This shouldn’t be that controversial.
Lets agree 1) I was too sceptical and 2) Poland-Netherlands-Australia was never a reality just a hopeful reach. NL-AR-AU was highly likely and its debatable US is better than AU.I dont care really, when my team isnt playing Im rooting for Italy anyway :D

And I hear 20 minutes ago both Spain and Germany were about to be eliminated. LOL. What do I know, heh.

If Japan wins it goes to the BR bracket and ES goes to PT IIRC. Does it look like Spain throwing the game or just Japan is good?

Is this the worst World Cup result for Germany of all time? I can;t remember the last time they were knocked out in the group stages (including when they were just "West Germany").

At least there was 2018.

Japan won today with 17% possession which is the lowest ever recorded in a World Cup game. Crazy stuff.

Portugal is flashes of brilliance coupled with vast stages of each game they play in which they just kind of check out

In a cool but entirely meaningless stat, the US finish group play as the only team in the tournament not to concede a goal in the run of play. Imagine thinking Tim Ream didn’t belong on this team throughout qualifying.

So the round of 16 is in (I've listed the favored team first):

Netherlands vs USA
Argentina vs Australia
Croatia vs Japan
Brazil vs South Korea
England vs Senegal
France vs Poland
Spain vs Morocco
Portugal vs Switzerland

I like two upsets here: Japan defeating Croatia, and Morocco defeating Spain. Japan and Morocco are the two hottest teams coming out of the group stages. I think they prevail.

Considering you were bagging on the US for not scoring enough goals to be a team that can win, this seems like a weird step back to "whatever works"
