Saw these for the first time on the weekend. Absolutely insane how these were allowed.
All the people with their panties in a twist over ads on helmets and jerseys which you cannot see at all during the course of play but they just drop these unbelievably distracting ads on a game that requires a degree of concentration to follow in the first place, at least compared to the other 3 majors.
It’s bananas.
I wonder how long til these vampires charge a premium to watch the games without those.

For a league that's trying to grow the game, the complaint of new or potential hockey fans is often "I can't follow the puck!"

well, good luck now!

And now with advertisement over the scoreboard during play

The Toronto feed doesn’t have the digital ads neither does the Carolina feed. However both the Vegas and Canuck feeds do have them.

Wonder why certain games have one feed with the ad and one without.

If you aren't airing a compelling product, you have to sell other people's products instead. The league should try being less boring. Doesn't appear a league that infantilizes their players into little hockey eunuchs is doing it.
And just how would the NHL make money under your scenario?

Sometimes there's an animation like something rolling across the boards, and of course the game's at 60 fps but the animation on the ads is at like 10 fps so it's a massive distraction and a headache, and certainly makes it impossible to track the puck while that animation is going on.

Why are ads on uniforms, helmets, or the ice such a big deal but something like this is okay? Or is this just a ploy. First have these, then go "okay we removed them but we added them to uniforms and helmets instead to compensate". Was that their plan in the first place?

I wish. Apparently this shitty technology has been in development for like a decade and they've sunk millions into it.

Game is unwatchable again tonight on Sportsnet due to glitching ads.

We're what...two weeks into the season? And every game I've seen so far has glitching ads many, many times throughout the game. Did they even test this before approving it?

I HATED ads on the helmets and jerseys - not because they were distracting, but just the principle of it. I still think its a disgusting money grab, but they do not interfere with the actual product on the ice like these boards ads do.

If I actually pay attention to the board ads, it gives me a headache - I have to consciously avoid focusing on the far end of the ice when watching games now.

Any time the boards have to interact with a physical object it looks like complete shit and completely ruins immersion. The glass that overlaps with the boards at the ends of the rink are all blurry and missing parts. The goal line does not go up the digital boards like it does in the arena. Anytime a door is opening it gets messy. Anytime there is a board battle the outlines of the players are glitching and sometimes just blend in with the ads.

Its honestly amateur hour and a disgrace to the sport.

During an Oilers game earlier on in the season the digital ads started glitching out and they turned them off for a bit... and a lot of them were the same companies? Like they took down the digital Pizza 73 ad and revealed a Pizza 73 ad on the physical boards in the arena and it's like... okay... soooo what's the point then? Did they have to pay twice?
I noticed this too...like what?

Of the 8 feeds right now, 5 of them have the digital ads and 3 don’t.

Both of the feeds from the Boston game don’t have the ads. Wonder if it’s arena related or what.

lol I first made this thread it was about one little compartment on the boards…

Now the whole perimeter of the boards on change with distracting ads that interfere with the picture..

Just horrific by the NHL to allow this

In addition to the atrocity of digital ads, I live in Japan and thus in order to watch the Oilers-Penguins game yesterday streamed on NHL.TV (which I pay for) I had to not only watch the French-broadcast (which I don't really mind) but the video was glitchy-as-hell, with all sorts of visual fails and distractions, in addition to the extra annoyance of the digital ads.

Well, NHL, you blew it. I gave you my money this year, but I guess next season I'll go back to watching illegal streams, which are free and in the same (or better) quality.

They had them for a home game a few nights ago. But NESN hasn’t had them the last 3 home games for Boston.

Is this a broadcast/team decision to go without them?
yes the Garden had the DED Rolling boards on their broadcast as directed the only night it wasn't was TNT in DC WHICH WAS OPENING NIGHT
The only time the game was held up was the Hockey fights Cancer presentation about halfway through the 2nd period at about the 11:32 mark

Gary Bettman would do anything for money...can we please send the Count into retirement, for the love of the game.

Couldn’t help notice that digital ads on the ice surface seems to be a thing now too?

So, now we have ads on the centre ice area, ads behind the goal line and virtual ads on the ice just inside the blue line.

What’s the delay, NHL, may as well get it over with and just go full Euro-league…

The on ice product is slowly becoming unwatchable for me.

Hope this is a trend but doubt it, they turned them off on tonight's Isles Rangers game on TNT sometime either during or after the 1st period. Once I saw someone post so on Twitter, I turned it on! Excited to finally watch some hockey!

Don't forget about the digital ads on the glass behind the goals
