yeah that's another thing that doesn't make sense to me. if you're a company, wouldn't you want your logo on the boards for the entire game rather than just for 30 seconds at a time however many times it shows up? and shit like Dunkin Donuts just make half their ad some stupid saying like THE RANGERS DUNK THEIR NUTS IN OUR COFFEE or whatever that you might not even know what f***ing company it was.

this may sound dramatic or whatever but the sport is ruined for me. i get headaches and dizzy while watching games, it's plain horrible.

Has it really been that bad in the states? In Canada it's gotten so much better, they've removed most of the motion and instead made it more like baseball where it's fixed and i've hardly noticed

I do too. I have to look away bc I get the spins.

I'm hoping someone sues bc these ads trigger their epilepsy or some other medical condition such that the nhl has to put " warning - the following barrage of ads may induce seizures" before going to live play. Then they would surely ditch the digital ads.

Actually n/m. They probably wouldn't and tell us to "get used to it" just like they already did. This thread and the nhl center ice thread show how amateur the NHL is.

On top of the many reasons that I hate these ads... the game loses its grit when there's any sort of action along the boards. Hard hit? Can't tell. The player's shoulder just disappeared into a stupid ad. It's like watching a youtube budget action movie cast against the cheapest green screen tech.

I had to turn off the game last night. Please continue emailing and tweeting the NHL about this garbage. It's such a slap in the face to their fans.

I have noticed the Canadian feeds tend to look more like traditional boards. The US feeds are loud, gaudy and animated.

I just tried watched a highlight from last night and a giant Ford ad took over right before the goal.

It’s so embarrassing the league is degrading their own product so much that watching a highlight is cumbersome.

Yes , when I watch games featuring Canadian teams the overall production is much better and the ads are barely noticeable.

These are still god awful.

NHL seems intent on making the television product as unwatchable as possible. When the puck isn't getting lost into the boards by a stupid ad, you're treated to Cabbies goofy ass telling you about the spread of the game.

During an Oilers game earlier on in the season the digital ads started glitching out and they turned them off for a bit... and a lot of them were the same companies? Like they took down the digital Pizza 73 ad and revealed a Pizza 73 ad on the physical boards in the arena and it's like... okay... soooo what's the point then? Did they have to pay twice?

I'm so sick of this shit. Those film features of dystopian society where you're forced to watch advertising in order to do anything are becoming more accurate every day. What's next? I gotta watch a message from Jake from State Farm in order to enter a public bathroom? Little McDonald's jingle to use the toilet paper in there? If they ever make GTA VI and you're online you get to watch another shitty Big Pharma commercial before you respawn like a "Game Over" sequence?

Hell... Just just randomly turn off our streams and make us buy products so we can continue watching hockey. Sometime during the game Bally Sports can just shut off your shit and demand tribute to Taco Bell and only lets you watch upon paying for the food

Businesses are officially predatory now. I gotta see ads on top of ads now. This is ridiculous
Have to pay to use restrooms in many parts of Europe…

I’d gladly watch a 15 second ad from Jake rather than swipe my card…

They keep glitching out on the Sportsnet broadcast tonight it’s absolutely ridiculous.

How can we submit complaints to the league about this garbage?

I turned the game on quick and shut it back off. Ads by the benches on the glass, behind the goal, boards. When the TV pans, the ads come and go on the glass, super annoying. I'm out, I'm not watching anymore.

It was glitching in the Edmonton-St.Louis game and it was distracting. Also it seemed like there were a ton of those motion ads in the third.

Something else I've realized that bothers me about these superimposed ads, which is kind of hard to explain, is the feeling it gives that the boards aren't real, that they're projections, so that when the players and puck get near them, it gives this heightened sense of fake reality, like we're watching a game but not in an actual physical space. It's disconcerting, Black Mirror-ish I guess you might say in terms of what it says about this digitized and over-advertised world we live in, and there are several moments in each game where I'm slightly disturbed by that feeling.
To further on this now that you've mentioned this, it also changes the complexion of an arena. Watching the Leafs/Jets game, and it looks nothing like the MTS/Canada Life Centre that I've been used to. Feels like a completely different arena.

Digital ads are so distracting and I’m starting to lose patience fast…probably will stop watching hockey because of it. So stupidly annoying

This stuff makes the NHL look like some kind of embarrassing, third-rate league.
once they earn $$ like a 2nd rate sports league, which is a 3rd rate overall business when compared to the likes of AAPL and RY and the like...they still won't merit any consideration when compared with actual money-making businesses. talking about the finances of the NHL is like talking with 5 of your brother- or sister-in-laws about what might happens someday when your parents definitively stop living

Players were fighting for the puck in the corner in front of a digital ad and it gave a couple guys this weird blurry soft halo on that side of their body.

Which is fine if you're watching Ghost. Not so much if you're watching a hockey game.

If you aren't airing a compelling product, you have to sell other people's products instead. The league should try being less boring. Doesn't appear a league that infantilizes their players into little hockey eunuchs is doing it.

The blurriness when players are in front of the boards is almost worse than the animated ads at this point.

It's all completely bush league and a joke.

Are any major publications calling this crap out? Seems none of the media are holding the league accountable for this radical change in how the game is viewed.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen any major media calling out the NHL. Just an article on Yahoo, and not much else.

The whole mess has really crushed my love of the game. Every year I watch the games, follow the trades, play fantasy hockey, etc., even though my team is never a serious contender. This year, I have yet to finish an entire game. I even turned down free tickets to a game, because I just wasn't feeling it. The thought of watching a flashing banner ad for two hours just kills any interest.
