First 5 minutes aside they were fantastic tonight. Limited chances, got saves, buried opportunities. Even the special teams dominated.

I really liked Mercer centering for Zetterlund and Holtz. Liked all of our lines tonight, even with Palat out. It’s good to play Bratt and Hughes together as the opposition can’t concentrate on either of them exclusively.

Detroit’s fans can’t be happy with the effort they saw tonight. Once we got up, they really seemed to quit. More or less like we did last night.

I think that’s a problem for young teams in general.

Yeah Detroit had a bad game and it was a 2 goal game at one point but the Devils were the better team and blew it open again late in the game to make it 6 to 2. Last night's game the Devils had legs but the Capitals capitalized on our mistakes even though we outshot them. Kind of like the prior game vs the Wings. Vanececk didn't have to stop many shots and he made a few good saves. It's a testament to how good we played on D tonight. I thought both goals against were Vitek could of possibly stopped, especially the first. The 2nd goal was a tough one because it was a one timer off a pass literally from behind the net right into Kubaliks wheelhouse in the hashmarks. Aside from those 2 plays the Devils played A REALLY GOOD GAME defensivley. This game was all Devils for the most part , they were in control so much tonight. This and the Islanders game.were our 2 best of the season so far.

The 2018 draft we took Smith who basically got us Marino and 5 years of his prime , hopefully an NHL goalie in Schmid. The rest of that draft is junk minus OUR DRAFT STEAL Sharangovich !!

Wood + Tatar won't be back next year, I wouldn't be worried about a Bratt extension. Not to mention the 4M cap increase that's being talked about. But yeah there was no excuse not to sign Bratt long term this past offseason or 2 years ago to a long term deal.

We didn’t have our 2nd (Grabner trade) of 3rd (Henrique/Vats trade) in 2018 so getting Sharangovich in the 5th round is a huge win. We drafted Schmid with a extra 5th (Wedgewood trade), if he hits that would give us a lot from a very bare bones draft.

It’s not exactly shocking to have the #110, #172 and #203 picks miss and those were there only others we had.
