Besides, @Lou is God, he deleted a post that said this ""LOL! This is a fan forum, everything on here is speculation. I like to think my source is legit but no one knows what will happen until it happens, not even Fitz.""

Yeah, okay. Well my source is the neighbor's dog and I like to think he's legit, too.

The only true thing he said was that no one knows what will happen until it happens.

Though Fitz will know (don't know why he said that he wouldn't) 'cause he's the one making the decision.

But yes. It *is* time to move on.

Conclusion (TLDR) : I don't believe a damn word he says. BACK TO HOCKEY!

You know....I don't know how anyone can see the ENORMOUS majority vote (poll) in favor of Slaf and think that there's a possibility of that pick being traded(and him in essence traded) away.

Fitz would be pissing off just about the entire fanbase if he were to do anything other than go up to the podium and say "The Devils are proud to select Juraj Slavkovsky" (that is, of course, if the Habs choose him in which case, It's Shane f'n Wright time)

This reminds me of the Carlin skit about praying to Joe pesci and the Sun and having prayers answered at the same rate
Have you seen the documentary?

It's pretty great.

If you don't have HBO Max it's worth the purchase for a month just for it.

I dont think most Devils fans have a clue who Slafkovsky is. Ya us fans on a fan forum will, but for the most part , I cannot see that many casual or “normal” fans getting upset if we don’t draft Slafkovsky.

I mean it’s very likely a legitimate source and could be from Fitz. Fitz has said always said they’ll look at it. It’s just no likely to actually materialize.

Friedman also said that Kadri is Flyer if Colorado doesn’t re-sign him (someone mentioned that here, I looked it up, and yep, he said it).

Now, a million years ago the Flyers were interested in Kadri and yes, an chippy asshole on skates seems right up their alley, but the Flyers don’t need to get older and they certainly don’t need to hand out a third long term deal to a aging center. They don’t have 7m in extra cap space just sitting around either.

If Ellis is broken longterm then their defense is issue and they should be leaning towards at least recognizing the need for a soft reset with next year’s strong draft. (Though they *snicker* gave their 2023 2nd to Buffalo in the Risto trade *burst of uncontrollable laughter*.)

Freidman says all sorts of shit, he’s got a lot of airtime and almost nothing is actually happening.

It’s possible that we trade the pick and I dread that scenario because I don’t have a ton of faith that Fitz won’t lose this trade. You usually win when there are a lot of motivated bidders or the other guy is dead set on getting your asset.

If Fitz is approaching it “man, I got to move the puck to speed the process up” we’re likely f***ed. That’s definitely a worst case scenario, and while I now despise Freidman for putting that worm in my brain, I remain skeptical. (Because again, he’s throwing stuff out all the time.)

Fitz hasn’t shown me that he’s willing to hurt the future for immediate results, so I doubt he’d do that for anything short of a haul.

Why are you calling them "normal"?

Are you saying we're strange?

But I think you underestimate Devils fans if you think they won't have a clue who Slafkovsky is.

How does one become a fan of the team, start following it, and NOT do any research on upcoming draft picks, especially picks in the Top 5?

Maybe they won't know who many of the draftees are (or care) but they should know names that keep popping up on sports channels like Wright and Slafkovsky. :teach2:

Agree. The other point I would make is people need to really listen to what they say. One good example is when they reported that Ottawa liked Fiala and the Devils made sense. The Devils have needs all over the roster and they have cap space. I could figure out they "made sense".

Also note it has been widely reported that the Devils use a collaborative decision making structure. I could figure out that they will meet and discuss possible trade possibilities that may be out there. IMO that is not any kind of report that means anything.

I have not spent 1 minute worrying that the Devils would trade the pick for a player that will be due a UFA contract in the next 2 years. That pretty much eliminates any of the players that people bring up. The type of player the Devils would potentially trade the pick for do not get traded.

I don't think management knows or cares what we think on here, and even if they do, it shouldn't affect their decision making with the pick.

When GMs start caving to media or fan pressure for splashy moves, that's when they start doing stupid shit. No thank you, I do not want to be like Toronto or Montreal, regularly making insane decisions for reasons other than hockey effectiveness.

I’m a little worried now lol, but I’m the type who worries.

Also the idea that Fitz is trying to save his job and sees a player as someone who will give him instant results vs a prospect makes a depressing certain amount of sense. If that’s the reason it happens then I will begin to look forward to him being fired after that. (And I never did that with a Devils GM before.)

The Analytics department would really have to like someone to trade the 2OA pick for them, especially in a salary cap dependent league. The 2OA holds a 12.3 GSAV in their first 7 seasons. Just for comparison, DeBrincat had a 3 GSAV this year and is projected to have 3.1 GSAV next year as a 25 year old. From there he is a RFA turning UFA the following year. This is without taking the Salary Cap value into consideration.

There is no chance in hell I move the 2OA for DeBrincat.

That is how you use edgework, quickness and a 6'4 225 frame to get to the paint to score a goal. This kid is slipping out of our hands, better start doing work on Wright.
I really, really doubt they don’t go Wright, but I guess it’s possible with how Slaf’s done internationally this year. What are your thoughts on Wright? I always enjoy reading your thoughts on prospects and don’t think I’ve seen your thoughts on Wright!

People keep mentioning Kakko. Not only is Kakko a much worse skater but Slakovsky is much bigger already. At 6'3 199 Kakko has a 24.9 BMI with below average skating. Slafkovsky at 6'4 225 has a 27.4 BMI with vgood skating.

Haven't really watched him outside a U18s and a few U20 games. To be honest I didn't really focus on him, I had my eyes on Bedard and rightfully so.

I guess a few devils fans will know the name of the top few guys at the draft but not know overly that much about them. I don’t think casual fans know enough to get upset and revolt if we draft one player over another unless it’s a crazy reach and everyone loses their shit.

Hughes just had an interesting shift. He did a nice job on keep ins and with a shot on a power play and then he carried it in deep after the power play expired but a turnover led to a chance going the other way. Hughes will benefit from teammates that understand him since the turnover was more or less prompted by his teammate taking up the same space Hughes was trying to skate through.

If I'm understanding that last part correctly, he's talking about a situation where the Habs would trade with us so they had both #1 and #2? That seems wildly unrealistic. Has anybody had back to back picks in the top 5 since the Sedin twins were drafted?

I'm hoping that his source about the Habs liking Wright the most is correct, but it's hard to take seriously when the second half of the premise is so unrealistic (which to be fair, he acknowledges).
