Vesey is whatever, a decent 3rd liner depth scorer.

I think the hate comes from the fact that he was such a coveted free agent. It's like draft pedigree.....if you suck but you're a later round pick, well that's expected, if you suck and you are a top 10 pick, you're gonna get ripped.

Most of the hate was because he was legitimately bad.

He has improved this season though and turned into an acceptable 3rd line scorer as you said.

That is true and it is annoying. I have been defending Vesey for what he is for 3 years now and not just after 1 good play or game.

Yes, and I think have had the same perspective on him.
The expectation thing for him when he was so coveted coming in is something I think of but also that is a long time ago now. (not that you brought it up).

Most of the players in the NHL need good players around them to succeed. How do you define hockey IQ? His passing is underrated. Clarkson was a good player to have until the injuries.

Eh, there are many players that can create some offense that aren’t superstars. Vesey creates very little. But he’s also not good enough defensively. So it’s just an awkward situation with him. How is his passing overrated? Just because he makes one or two good passes once in a while does not make him a good passer. Being a good passer is about consistency. And Vesey makes more bad passes than most players I’ve seen.

Hockey IQ? It’s having good awareness of the game, having good vision of the ice, knowing where the puck is going to be (not where it already is), and feeling around your teammates and opponents (hockey sense).

I see it the other way around actually. Every time he makes a bad pass or misses the net with a shot it is talked about ad nauseam and the good stuff is usually ignored.

I've been watching hockey for a long time, more than I care to admit and I don't think i've EVER seen a penalty rescinded except for that one time Crosby was told to get out of the penalty box.
