Because he can be so much more, if he can just get rid of the incompetence from his game

My gripe with him is effort, and what role does he fit?

Is he good enough defensively to play a checking role 5v5 while getting that 15-18 goals? Not IMO. Can he PK? No. Call it a matter of chances, but he doesn't fit the bill there.

Does he offer enough consistent offense to play in the top 6? No. My perspectives don't change based on a game or three of good play.

So what does he do?

I don't see him as a player that would be on a winning team playing a key role. But he's good enough to warrant a $2.7-$3M deal. He'll be a journeyman once he hits UFA.

They guy has good production for a bottom sixer and plays with grit. He doesnt have all the attributes to be anything more than what he is which is a solid NHL bottom six forward. It's not like this team is icing an all-star forward group.
The guy is making 2 mil a year. There are a lot of forwards in this league who make a lot more and produce a lot less.

I just hope the Rangers don't go on one of those "Us Against The World" streaks and win like 8/10 post TDL. Gotta get a high pick. It's what's best for business.

Also, that post wasn’t me hating on him. Just pointing out that he sucks at passing. Am I wrong? I don’t hate the guy. I just tell it like it is. Is he a bad player? No. Is he anything special? No. He’s just a solid bottom 6 guy, but people treat him like he’s better than that. Just because he got a couple points.

I went over this with Fast. I said he was overrated. Was I wrong?

Most of the players in the NHL need good players around them to succeed. How do you define hockey IQ? His passing is underrated. Clarkson was a good player to have until the injuries.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I just couldn’t word it. It’s weird. He just can’t fit in a certain role. And that makes me uncomfortable. I don’t want him in the top 6, but I also don’t want him playing in a defensive role in the bottom 6. Neither here nor there. He’s just too average (or below average) at everything.

And thank you. Most people’s opinion on here changes from minute to minute, and it’s the most annoying thing ever.

I edited my post before you posted, and yea. I agree he’s a solid bottom 6 guy. But he’s overrated on here depending on whether he gets a point or not.
 
Vesey is whatever, a decent 3rd liner depth scorer.

I think the hate comes from the fact that he was such a coveted free agent. It's like draft pedigree.....if you suck but you're a later round pick, well that's expected, if you suck and you are a top 10 pick, you're gonna get ripped.

That is true and it is annoying. I have been defending Vesey for what he is for 3 years now and not just after 1 good play or game.
