Did you watch his rookie year? He had an excellent rookie campaign. It was probably the best hockey I've seen him play up until this past season. He was consistently in the lineup and playing well until the Subban hit shook his confidence. He played 65 games, the most games he's had in a season, and the games he missed were almost exclusively due to injury.

The shuffling really started in his sophomore year.

He played 65 games as a rookie so there was some shuffling. Part of my assessment is because I thought we had other better options at the time (like Stralman) and saw no need to rush Larsson just because he was the #4 pick. Nothing about how things turned out would change my opinion that he should have gone straight to Albany and worked on his skating, etc, especially considering we didn't really need him on the big club.

There was no shuffling. 65 games is the most games he's ever played in a season. He missed games for injury, and rookies tend not to have the stamina for a full-NHL season.

Saying we had other options and he could have used AHL time is a different argument entirely, and a stronger one; but as I recall it wasn't really a choice between NHL and AHL it was a choice between NHL and SEL, which makes it a much more difficult decision in terms of developmental benefit.

As for Stralman - I can't argue that given how he's done when given opportunity that he would have been a superior option. But that doesn't mean that the decision made at the time was the wrong one.

The jokes on you if you think that Larsson should have made the team his rookie year instead of starting in the AHL. He wasn't ready, and the coaches shuttling him in and out of the lineup only set him back further. But I suppose you know better as usual.

Larsson was absolutely ready and was one of our better defenseman that season.

Fair enough. I can't remember what I had for breakfast sometimes let alone the details of something from several years ago. What I do recall vividly (as well as the recollection amongst my inner circle of Devils friends) is that he really should not have been a Devil right away and in my mind he struggled from the start....I thought that he could have gone to Albany instead of back to Sweden but I can't swear to it....

I wonder if guys like Paul Thompson will get a chance? He was pretty good last year and Lou signed him to a Two way.

Damn, talk about timing.

I guess the one of the positives for Reid will be that he'll have extra time to work on his game in Albany.

A while? He's 22 with only 2 full professional years under his belt. Yes, this was supposed to be a big year for his development, but let's pump the brakes here about him being a lost cause.

Sorry to hear about Boosh, must have happened against Buffalo. If Shero doesn't bring in a winger, I believe it will be up to 3 players: Zacha who I think would be better off spending the year in juniors, Blandisi and J.Q.

And his AHL rookie season was excellent, especially if you look at the team he was on. Really too bad about this concussion. He's at the point where he can't really afford a large chunk of missed development time.

As far as ruining prospects with "gift" spots re: Larsson, Adam was clearly one of the four best defensemen on the team in his rookie year. The problem came the next season when Deboer apparently expected veteran defensive play out of a 19 year old with .75 years of play on North American ice under his belt.

And as for Blandisi and being the kind of player a coaching staff will love, I agree 100% and think Coleman is in the same boat. If Boucher's guaranteed to miss opening night I think one of those two definitely makes the roster.

he stinks

He had 33 Goals and 55 pts in Albany last season. More than Henrique did in his stint in the AHL. Maybe he is a late bloomer or it could be just a fluke but it can't hurt to give him a shot.

I seem to recall you saying Strahlman sucks that season when he tried out for the Devils.

or maybe he isn't an NHL player considering he turns 27 in a few weeks

those numbers at 21? cool. those numbers at almost 27? get lost

EAs sim of NHL16 has us finishing dead last with Schneider being hurt and Kinkaid taking over and winning the Calder.
