Tomorrow is going to be a tough game that we might lose, especially on a B2B, with our wonky schedule, and the Canes with 4 days rest. Will be a good challenge for sure. I'll be very happy with a 4-2 start with out crazy schedule.
if this team can win on average 2 out of every 3 games, we will all be happy campers.

Okay...I do have a slight issue with the PP.

Why is Bratt parked in front of the Opposing goaltender?

I feel he's being wasted like that when someone more bigger (and can block the Goaltender's sight better) would be the wiser move.

That was 8 months ago, so no one but me remembers that.

What are you talking about? Bratt is playing on the halfwall

If we get the big guns going like they can , the PP will follow suit. It maybe getting the PO going will unlock beast mode Jack and Bratt . With a good PP … we will be unstoppable.

You're right, I misspoke - Guttersniped remembers as do the people who've been upvoting my posts on the subject.

But more seriously, of course people memory holed the games from last season, why wouldn't they?

Guys don’t get magically good on the power play. They need reps, and some of those reps need to be in real games.

This is correct, but if they're playing poorly/mediocre 5v5 at present and have a history of playing poorly on the power play, I don't see a reason to give that player reps on the power play unless it's necessary by injury.

I remember perfectly well and had no issues with Nemec specifically on that powerplay last year. The whole thing was a mess and Nemec was fine. As I said in an earlier post he’s not likely going to be the guy who can create offense all on his own.

Really wondering what they do once Pesce and Luke come back.

Dillon - Hamilton
Luke - Pesce
Siegs - Kovacevic
Casey

Send both Nemec and Casey down and bring up Misyul or someone? Send one of the two?

I think Casey will get sent. Would hope Nemec gets playing time at the NHL level but he will need to be better than his first 4 or so games.

Luckily its an embarrassment of riches

Im curious what we do longterm; you probably cant keep every young guy and expect them to all pan out to their ceilings and/or afford them

Fun times to be a Devils fan

I don't want to run either of those guys as a 7th D....I'd let them play in Utica just so they can keep playing hockey.

I'd bring up Desimone who is a perfect guy to serve as a 7th D. If anyone is going to be out a stretch of games, than you bring up Nemec / Casey, but otherwise DeSimone can fill in here or there if someone gets sick or something.

It depends how they’re running the 7D. Some people have talked about them playing 7D. If they’re doing that and still getting decent TOI I’m happy to do that. The whole needing a ton of minutes thing is and always has been overrated. 12 minutes a night in the NHL plus practice daily within an NHL team is far more valuable than 20 minutes a night in the AHL.

I'd be okay with keeping one of them up if they plan was just to run 11 / 7.

I just don't want them sitting for weeks at a time and not playing any hockey

With the cap going up and some contracts coming off the books, I wouldn’t be surprised if they can all get signed long term. I doubt they all make super high salaries. But indeed, fun times for sure! Good problems to have.

Agreed

But at some point I, if im the GM, need to think about the players' development and value to my team too. How many mouths can one defense feed?

Even just with Luke, Simon, and Seamus.. what would the odds be each could hit their projected ceiling on the same team? I actually dont know, just pondering.

And that doesnt include some filler bodies to do things those guys dont; I know I dont want those three being forced into enforcing and laying big hits for my team lol. Defensive specialists as well (including the Russian we took, im half asleep or id google his name)

Had a moment to think about it before bed and thought Id comment. Its a fun problem to have, for sure; cant help but wonder if maybe one of these guys is used as an asset in the future

Homegrown talent is always more fun so you wont see me complaining if we do keep them all lol

I think both Casey and Nemec stay up until Luke is ready to return.

If Pesce is ready to go this week, I think Nemec comes out of the lineup and serves as a healthy scratch for a few games, maybe 2-3 games in a row. I dont think it will hurt Nemec too much development as he will be practising with the NHL team. Next week I would take Casey out for 2-3 games and insert Nemec back in so he doesn't lose too much in game conditioning. I would repeat the weekly process until Luke is ready to return. Of course if one of the other dman is banged up or Kovacevic game falls off the cliff, you can insert one of them as the team needs.

When Luke is ready to return send Casey and Nemec to Utica and call up DeSimone to sit regularly at the 7th dman, while Casey and Nemec play big minutes in Utica.

You're right - the thing to draw conclusions from was watching him last season struggle with very basic things on the power play. That was 8 months ago, so no one but me remembers that. Now we just have the numbers.

I distinctly remember Nemec struggling to hold the blue line and losing the puck a lot.

Nemec did a bad job on the PP last year. People can blame whatever/whomever they want for his poor performance but it happened.

We’ll all find out together what Keefe & co will do after Pesce comes back. I don’t see the point of endlessly debating future events beyond our control. (Not saying other people can’t do it all day long, just saying I find it pointless.)

But isn't pointless debate the whole point of HFBoards?

Stop making sense. This is no place for pensive reflection.
