Bro they've played 12 games. It's October.

Take a Xanax. Relax.

Edit: Whoops grabbed an old post. Still, enjoy the ride guys. It's... Very... Early.

I mean, to be fair, in the same post I said they played incredible v Detroit. It's not like I didn't give them credit in the game they looked good in last week. And I don't get the whole it's October thing when they were losing games + didn't look good that week for the majority of it. They played well v the Ducks and did exactly what they should've v TB/Toronto when they came in on B2B's as well.

Might not watch just out of protest. 37 should be hanging in the rafters

Gotta change my username in that case :sarcasm:

since the team obviously is missing a top-9 forward or two, anyone have a wish list? realistic targets, pie in the sky targets, “would not scream cry if we traded nemec/casey for him” type of targets, etc?

His contract term isnt the best, and hed cost a pretty penny both in assets and to re-sign down the line; but Lawson Crouse is a name Id keep an eye on to replace Palat

Id also like another right handed shot for the top-6; this if Mercer is looking to be a third line forward long-term for us

If they're trading Casey or Nemec it needs to be for an elite young forward who is either on their ELC or on an RFA deal for at least 3 more years after this season.

I think a more likely move would be ironically something more similar to the Toffoli deal, a vet winger on an expiring deal who can score some goals. Michael Granlund seems like a great choice. Frankie Vatrano seems fun. I don't know if we could make it work because of salary and NMC but I'd love to get Claude Giroux at the deadline, veteran C/W who still has a lot of juice offensively and could compliment Jack really well.

Nemec for Cooley makes a ton of sense, but not sure Utah would do that.

Palat - Hughes - Bratt
Meier - Hischier - Mercer
Cotter - Cooley - Noesen
Tatar - Haula - Bastian

He's also someone who could move up as center/wing with Hughes and Bratt if you wanted a better faceoff option while not sacrificing talent.

Hughes - Cooley - Bratt would a fun trio to throw together if we're trailing. Not a heavy line, but that's a ton of speed...

The contract would probably make it unwise without some retention, but I might shed a tear if we reunited Blake Coleman with Stefan Noesen.

Nico Sturm is probably a good target for 4C.

For a forward trade target, the Pens are a disaster and will be selling. They have some interesting targets.

Drew O'Connor is top of my board. Brings some two-way play, positional versatility, and can pop in some greasy goals. Puljujarvi is also very intriguing to me.

Joel Armia from Montreal I would also keep my eyes on. Others have mentioned Jake Evans.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me, Ftorek was a bit of a weird bird and just did annoying little things like scratching Rafalski in his homecoming at Detroit or scratching Dano so he couldn't reach his 1000th game played at home.

To Bobby's credit, he said Ftorek was a good teacher especially for the younger guys. His point seemed to largely be that he wanted to treat everyone the same, and that it wasn't going to fly when you have rookies like Gomer, up and coming guys like Patty and Sykora, and then veterans like Stevens, Marty, McKay and himself.

His exact comment was that he remembers coaches coming in and saying they wanted to treat everyone the same and his internal response being "oh shit, we're in trouble."

Just to clarify, it was a game earlier in the season at Chicago that Rafalski was scratched for. He had some friends and family come down for that one. Not totally sure Ftorek would have known, but seemed a bit odd to scratch Rafalski who played the game before/after. The game at Detroit that season was memorable thanks to Ftorek (Rafalski makes an appearance at the end):

Time to dust off the 37 jersey and put a dowling nameplate..... Sigh

Reminds me of sometime last season some clown had made some noise about my 10 wearing a Zacha jersey, and that he wasn't still on the team. Really weird stuff. Like comon guy...
I see all kinds of random jerseys when I go to games. And that’s on the road. I can only imagine there’s even more at home games.

I still see a lot of Henrique jerseys when I attend games in Tampa and Sunrise. I’ve even seen a Larsson jersey or two, and he’s been going three times as long as Zacha has.

Yeah tons of old ones, it was just funny to hear it about Zacha of all players we had that were dicey.

People like that are so weird. It should be a talking point if nothing else.

I'm going to wear the Gusev jersey I had done one day just to trigger those conversations.

How is Jonathan Kovacevic looking for you guys?

He has been fantastic. Him and Jonas Siegenthaler have been one of the best defensive pairings across the league in this early going.

Somewhere I have my Jersey Joe Cirella jersey. Man was he a disappointment.

I'm not trading Casey or Nemec unless it's a massive overpayment.

Going to want to get out of the Dougie contract in a year or two and it will be a massive luxury to slot them in when that happens
They likely don't bring back Kovacevic next year. He has already earned himself a nice new deal which NJ is unlikely to offer him.

I bit surprised that the Devils didn’t bring Nolan Foote up for the Western Canada trip, especially since it’s where he’s from.

If my math is right, they might’ve been able to keep him up right up to his 30 day mark for waivers and send him down after the trip
