Not to be a dick and I've said this before, I don't care about any of these tournaments or the olympics one bit. Oh look, we slapped together a team (usually run by morons) whom could only dream of being a cohesive unit, have culture, or be a "team" over a week or two, to compete against other slapped together teams, it's meaningless.

I get national pride and all but the olympics should go back to amateurs only. I can't stand it as a fan, I would lose my mind if I was a GM or owner.
I disagree...a lot, if not most of the USA guys have been through tons of tournaments together from the time they were 16. Then another group have been together for World Championships some both... almost every single decent American prospect has been through the USNTDP. Those players are playing 2 full seasons together...and that same culture extends to the USHL... cohesion, culture and unity is automatic. USA Hockey has made that their goal for last 40 years and Id argue that they have been incredibly successful at it.

I see it more as building interest in hockey in the US than national pride. These tournaments are incredibly critical in gaining interest. A whole generation of players were influenced from the 1980 Olympics and similar but to a lesser extent 1996 Canada cup.
These things have been significant for the growth of hockey in the US

I think a tournament without the Russians is the joke though

Problem is, we need help in our bottom six because we have a whole line injured. You can't have guys like Jesper riding the pine or sitting in Utica for that kind of depth, because they're good enough for a full time NHL gig somewhere. Maybe we should have cut Bastian loose for Boqvist or whatever, but is that a needle mover? What we need is better top end Utica depth that we can call up, and that's got f*** all to do with keeping Boqvist et al. because those guys are necessarily going to be worse players than the Jespers of the world.

In 23-24, Boqvist played 31 games in the AHL and 47 games in the NHL.

Before Jan 6th Boqvist played 2 games for the Bruins, he was “sitting” in Providence for months as their depth.

They gave him a 1-way 750k deal and we were too cheap to pay that for forward depth that plays in the AHL.

Pretty simple. You want better depth in the AHL, draft better forwards, sign better undrafted talent and/or be willing to pay guys in Utica more money.

Players are going to be rusty as f***.

I’m actually glad Markstrom is on Team Sweden. The starting goalies who will be sitting on their ass for two weeks could have some real rocky performances coming out of the break.

Sanheim over Dougie really feels like a choice but whatever
And Parayko over Dougie too ? I guess it helps if the GM helping pick is the GM of your NHL team too …. Oh well. Let’s Dougie rest up and hopefully inspires / pisses him off and plays even better because he was snubbed .

Playing devil's advocate, they need D to kill penalties and be in more of a defensive role 5 on 5. Dougie wasn't going to get PP1 time over Makar and they have capable PP guys with Morrissey and Theodore.

I suppose there's an argument to have Dougie (or Evan Bouchard) as the #7 instead of Sanheim, but Sanheim has experience playing both sides and fits the role they're looking for. If there's an injury to the left side of the defense, it would be more difficult to shift a righty over if he doesn't have experience. Theodore and Sanheim have played the right side with regularity.

PP1: Makar
PP2: Morrissey-Theodore

PK1: Toews-Parayko
PK2: Morrissey-Pietrangelo

Toews leads Avs defenders with 2:12 in SH time per game. Parayko leads the Blues with 2:36 per game. Pietrangelo leads Vegas with 2:13 per game.

I'll be in Nashville for the 23rd. First time visiting. I'm thinking I might wear overalls with no shirt on like Hillbilly Jim and paint my face like a devil so I can make the broadcast.

Devils 12-5 in last 17 (116 pt avg in that stretch)

The 5 losses

3-0 to Calgary (wasn’t a terrible game, just didn’t have any legs and basically gave up no goals til the end)

1-0 to SJS (Devils scored the only goal :naughty: didn’t give up much)

4-0 to Tampa (didn’t play terribly, just wasn’t their night)

3-0 to St Louis (played well after rough start)

6-5 to Wash (crap defensively, but scored goals)

Pretty good stretch of hockey since October with two wins vs Florida and wins vs Carolina, Edmonton, Vancouver and Washington.

Parayko stinks, that's a Doug Armstrong not trying to get his player mad type move. But to the Devils perspective, I don't even care Dougie isn't going. I don't want our top guys to have a fluky injury in what looks to be a good year.
Parayko may not have been the best choice, but you do need d-man who can play tough defensive minutes, and Hamilton isn't that. Once Makar is on the team Hamilton is off.

And yet, the next loss this place will be in shambles

its not usually possible but the last time i remember it happening is march of 2017 when the wings played 3 in 3 due to game being postponed and they had to make it up
Ya, I always presumed it was part of the CBA that you couldn't play 3 in a row. It's too hard on the players.
