I see that second group as a bit of a downgrade from the first one. Take away Aho and I'm not sure they can generate much in the way of two way play. Svech and Jarvis are talented but both wings. I'm not sure I'm seeing it if they lose the current core to UFA. They lowballed Hamilton and then traded for 37 year old Burns to play the same role. So far so good but he's light years older than Hamilton and so more likely to fall off the cliff sooner. I'm just seeing too much adherence to a numbers model without enough thought to actual team building. They are an excellent team so we will see what happens in two years.

Like all teams that win the cup, they're going to have to go all in at some point. I think what they've demonstrated is that they're masters in understanding where they need to spend with their roster construction to get results.

We needed an elite offensive D desperately, so we had to pay the UFA tax to get Hamilton. Their org recognized they can get similar production with the other pieces they have in place at much less cost. Sure, they would prefer Hamilton to Burns, but the financial commitment is not the same.

I think they will spend what they need to when it comes time for that, but it's clear they feel they have that time.

Lol when the Devils are doing well I enjoy it. When they are playing poorly I login and vent. I coach a lot of hockey and am an old school stickler for fundemental, smart, defense first play. Give me a team of Zubrus and Mercer’s.

Screwing up basic stuff I expect out of a high school team bugs me.

Except the only time he's had four bad games out of five is the last two weeks. 28-8-3 is a lot more good hockey than bad. Maybe Schmid will be better in the long term and maybe he'll win the job in the playoffs but I'd rather not roll him out there as the starter straight off, because there's a difference between playing once or twice a week and being the guy that's relied on. Vitek's sag down the stretch is in part because he's not used to this kind of workload.

You act like we've had a bunch of 6-5 and 7-6 wins this year. He's only given up more than three goals in a win twice.

Look I like Schmid too but we're talking about eleven starts. Nico Daws looked fine in his first 10-12 starts last year too. None of these guys are sure things but I'd rather not be forced to find out if Schmid can handle the crucible of being the guy for the first time during a stretch run or in the playoffs, until we have no other choice.

My concern with Vitek is fatigue, clearly the workload is starting to catch up to him. Hopefully they can manage his games played down the stretch and the long break before the playoffs would help as well.

Talented - for sure. Great - I disagree. He could be great with more attention to detail. He’s a very frustrating player. Not a great decision maker.

Meh, I really liked our first. Caught a few posts, reversed goal. With a few saves, the game could’ve been a lot different. I don’t mind L’s like this to reset the mindset a little bit, to not get complacent.
