Pastrnak signing for 11.25 AAV made Bratt's agents sack even bigger IMO. I'm in no way implying Persson is looking at 11.25 but 9 or just north of 9 isn't a stretch either (again IMO). As has been brought up before, Fitz has his work cut out for him with this and Meier, not to mention having to juggle who he keeps and who he let's go after this season.
Well then he can get that bag elsewhere. I already did it once, but the math on Pastrnak's contract puts Bratt at 8 million. In no way does it help him get to 9+.

The first time Fitz talked about it, it sounded like the talks had started fairly recently. These things don’t take 2 minutes to finalize. We should be getting news in a few weeks.

I think some of you are reading too much into this. Fitz looks in a good state of mind about it and I expect it to get done with a 2nd year of PPG production. I don’t see how saying that talks have started and giving a clear update when asked by reporters of “we made an offer” is a bad thing. Fitz is always open with updates and that’s what he did here again.

Found the Boston board post where someone really read into Sweeney’s every generic comment and worried about that.

So you can read too much into these sort of comments.

I can’t even think of examples where a GM of non-seller said “I’m signing this player” and then said, “screw it, never mind, he’s made himself too pricy.”.

I want this deal done too, and I’ll be a lot more relaxed when Bratt and Timo are signed, but getting bent out of shape over imagined bad scenarios here isn’t going to make your life better.

The contract is being worked on.

When i was looking at some 'simple' advanced stats, if I understood them correctly, Wood had better numbers than McLeod. And my only point of mentioning Wood was that hes who's hes paired with and who I feel most Devils fans preferred, at least before this last half of the season

And I was actually going to spend the time to make up a list of all the contracts with similar ages and production, find out what the range is and has been and determine the cap % from that. Instead I went out lol so Ill take a look this weekend, didnt wanna do all that maneuvering of tabs on my phone. By listing those contracts I was merely trying to say we can afford McLeod at 2 even if hes our 3rd/4th lowest ATOI.

I wasnt trying to bring down any other Devil but instead trying to show what McLeod has had to work with (defensively with Wood and offensively with Bastian). And I understand most 4th lines are a hodge-podge of talent, but if were truly trying to build a contender here I think McLeod anchoring the center of that line for the foreseeable future is best.

If we keep Bastian as well were talking 3-3.5m total between the two. A third guy at either a minimum deal or up to 1m isnt a lot for a fourth line, especially considering we will be saving so much money on Luke Nemec Holtz or any other prospects/AHL guys. And thats without mentioning the cap eventually rising as it should (hopefully lol)
When we talk about our fourth line , we should start from Bastian. Count his future salary. And only after that start to thinking about other players. I understand that I didn't say nothing against your narrative, but we should respect authority.

I mean, we won 27 games last year. That's the entire season.

Now we've somehow -- despite probably the vast majority of us waiting for the floor to fall out only to realize we're on a foundation rather than a basement -- remained top 3 in the entire league through 75% of the season.

Anything is gravy here. But we should expect to at least win one playoff series which is going to be huge for this team in so many ways - individually for those who haven't experienced it and for the team to jell.

A question for smarter people (read: everyone, including baboons in the local zoo and probably some platypuses -- why isn't that platypi? -- ) when players are drafted as college players and play for an organization in deep trouble - Arizona, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. -- do their teammates ever "recruit" them to stay the 4 years and sign with their team? NHL teams can never talk to them, obviously, but Luke Hughes could talk to Portillo or whomever (as an example) ...

And speaking of Michigan, do I read it right that TJ Hughes is not drafted? He's done well there... could be a good signing?

I could see a forward, specifically at center, see future opportunities with us. We’re thin at forward in our prospect pool and ELC players are always needed.

At the end of 2021-22, free agent Ben Meyers signed with the Avs over the Wild, despite being a Minnesota native who was a Captain at the U of Minnesota. (Cold bro!)

Meyers hasn’t been particularly productive, but he’s already played 37 NHL games because of their rash of injuries. So he is benefiting from more opportunities there.

Overall I think people overreacting it a little bit from the both sides. They are dancing, dance isn't the picture, its a piece if art that exist in the period of time, in the moment it does mean nothing, just two people in strange poses.
May be Bratt think he can add some gear in the end of the season and produce more points like he did in the beginning of the season, especially now when he has a chance to play with Timo and Jack on the same line.
Bratt isn't on the good phase to take QO, because he will lose money on the long distance(he is 1ppg winger, ~1ppg centers got 8.5-8.7 mil like Hintz, Horvat and Larkin), there are little chance if he will got more, and only 7 years. So with his QO he will lose money and will take a risk to being injured. Its a bad position to raise the bet. So Fitz easily can offer him reasonable money.

More Hughes's for the God of Hughes's.

I saw some of his games. He isn't very good defensively and positionally. But I think he is good complimentary depth player. And he easily can start as top 9 forward in AHL.

This is more my thought process.

The "negative thought process" from some is because of the holdout followed by Bratt only signing for a year which got some people annoyed.

First, you shouldn’t fell bad asking about this. Nobody here is as smart as me. Just ask me I’ll telll you. Second the word platypus comes from thr Greek while adding an “I” to something to make it plural is from Latin. The correct term should be platypodes which has never caught on so the colloquial platypuses has been accepted. The important takeaway from this is the overwhelming breadth and depth of my intellect which is surpassed only by my humility. It’s critical to be humble like me.

Forgot how boring post trade deadline non game days were. This year especially with no new picks to ponder about more prospects.

I'll take it though.

Was it discussed what people thought of Severson's comments about the Bratt/Meier contract situation? Believe it was Novozinski that had the quotes

Makes me a little nervous that Bratt has mentioned talks being tough. Seems odd for Damon to come out and say that if Bratt hasn't discussed this with him before.

Also feels weird hearing Damon say we have to keep both of them when.. well.. unfortunately idt Damon will be around after this year.

I believe the quotes were about the Meier trade and Severson made a joke about one of them being dealt since they were both on a double date. It wasn’t anything serious I believe.

Can we talk about much we love Awesome Dawson.

This kid makes me all kinds of happy.
He’s a joy to watch. He’s all heart and effort and hustle. His skill is underrated and he plays the game the right way. After Bratt and Meier I’d like the team to sign him to an 8 year extension after this season ends.
