This negotiation is the culumination of what 4 years of planning and taking on major risk by Bratt and his agent? He's not going to just cave, I expect this will take some time cause Fitz won't cave either. It will get done but you all will sweat I think.

Yeah if you're Bratt you've got to be thinking they've already shortchanged you twice. Wouldn't expect him to turn around and take less when he already should have made more than he has.

If one player is willing to sign for what both sides see as reasonable before another player who they can't find common ground with, I don't see how that is a mistake.

I know you aren't directly implying it, but if Meier's team comes to the table ready to get a deal done, it would be a mistake to hold off due to Bratt.

That's fair, I think getting Bratt done makes way more sense for the Devils long term. I think Timo will take a bit longer especially since you have the cop out of the 10M QO at the worst. If Timo wants to sign first, sure

Should've cashed on that bozo Hynes benching him and Bratt's value at his lowest contract wise. He was built for Lindy's system like a glove.

There's two discreet topics in this reply.
I don't understand, but either way, yea it happened, I can't find where it was referenced but saw a quote about Holtz requesting a meeting and saying he wanted to go down. So this is kinda in response to that like, ahh didn't realize I was screwing you like that, my bad.

Certainly the Yang to Lou's Yin
I know Lou's name is still a bit dragged through the mud based on his later career but I really do think Fitz has a lot of prime Lou-like qualities, at least in terms of how he builds a team and when he takes his big swings (Fitz with Timo, Lou with Gilmour, Mogilny and Kovalchuk - only the latter being a pure rental that got resigned). He's a bit more transparent than Lou, though you kinda have to be more transparent in 2022 than in 1992.

I do worry that Fitz's public posturing is only emboldening the agent even more to drag his feet, thinking that the pressure's REALLY on Fitz to make a deal, which it kinda is.

Yea I mentioned it awhile ago, but his draft philosophy reminds me of Lou as well.

I do too, Lou was a fantastic trader. Hell, he's still pretty decent at it. The Romanov trade recently was really horrendous but I think it was compacted with the Toews trade a couple of years back but he basically won the Horvat trade imo and paid the smallest rental price for a good 25-30 goal scorer next to Brazil. I think the methodical nature of how Fitz attacks teams is pretty Lou esque too.

I was referencing his transparency and direct answers vs Lou's vagueness and deflections. Good mechanics and strategy they share.

Don’t think he’ll have to take less. With a 2nd very good year I expect Fitz to have sent a good offer Bratt’s way, but we don’t know so we’ll have to wait and see. We’re all just guessing right now lol.

The trade deadline is over? Really? So, what did Montreal wind up getting for Josh Anderson?

I put nothing past the Flyers or Canucks in terms of inept front office behavior.
They didn't sell anyone... and acquired a piece of shit (Lemieux) for seemingly no reason at all.

Vancouver has screwed up the JT Miller thing from the second they offered him a contract. Garland has been in trade rumors since the day he got there... and Boeser is the poster boy for "needing a change of scenery."

My guess is they won't retain on anyone and no one has the cap space for these players.

That Granlund deal still absolutely floors me. Insane deal, INSANE.

Just pay for JT Miller, at least he's sort of good and fits your window, dear lord.
