Sounds like Holtz is actually the one who asked to get sent down so he could play some games. Did we know this already? First I’ve heard. That’s an even worse look for management as far as how Holtz’s development has been handled this year.

saw a tweet about it, and i guess it shows initiative? but yeah not a great look for management. seems like he has to make a case for himself somehow. or maybe he initially wanted to stay/train w the team and then changed his mind?

Ya, I think I posted a tweet about it late last night.

Man.. I hope the Devils win this division and don't play the Rangers in the first round just so we don't have to deal with their fanbase for a little while.

Because of Tarasenko and Kane they are assuming their forward group blows the Devils away. Tarasenko hasn't done too much as a Ranger. Kane had 9 goals til he got hot a few weeks ago and still has lingering injury issues.

The Devils score more goals as a team and acquired Timo Meier who is having a WAY better season than Kane.

Everyone brushes off Vanecek as if Shesterkin is the second coming of Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur. You can't deny he had an elite and amazing season last year... but Vanecek's numbers are better this year.

Adam Fox is great. Hamilton has more points. Siegenthaler-Hamilton and Graves-Marino are great d pairings.

The penalty kills and powerplays are similar percentage-wise (2-3% difference on each).

The disrespect towards the Devils is astonishing. Devils have a 6 point lead in the standings with a game in hand.... all this up to the acquisitions of Kane and Meier. Meier is having a better season.

I mean I know at this point Ranger fans watch only the Rangers and have no problem making assumptions about their own team without considering anything else that is going on in the NHL... but this is absurd.

It's not just Rangers fans though. Seems like a lot of fans of other teams are dismissing the Devils' chances in the playoffs because it's the first trip there for many of our star players.

Or perhaps they are star struck by the reputations of the big name players the Rangers added, without realizing that they are on the downswing of their careers.

Either way, I think confident assertions that one team or the other would definitely win are laughable. It would be a tight series against the Rangers, and depending on which players step up, could easily go either way. For this reason, I'd rather not see them until the second round, if at all. But that would require us winning the division.

You know what would actually be better than beating the Rangers in round 1?

Us winning the division and the Rangers being mediocre down the stretch so that they have to face Carolina instead of us. We get the satisfaction of having climbed to the top seed while they sputtered, and they have to reckon with a true contender while we get one of the wild cards/don't have to hear from their insufferable fans/pundits.

Not likely to happen, but it would be sweet.

How the **** did we end up this schedule:

11th: Canadiens
---- Playoff Simulation Begins ----
12th: Carolina
14th: Lightning
16th: Lightning
18th: Panthers
19th: Lightning
---- Playoff Simulation Ends ----

Not only is that 6 games in exactly 8 days, but over half of them are against top-5 teams. On one hand I'm annoyed, but on the other hand this could be a little bit "experience" our young team needs heading into their first post season.

I agree that I think a lot of non-tri state fans are going to look at the rosters and think the Rangers are stacked.

Tarasenko and Kane are stars added to existing stars.

While the Devils have a more vague roster since people haven’t followed them, or worse, a roster of some players that are just losers.

-Hughes is playing well but he’s tiny so won’t be a playoff guy
-Hischier is a borderline bust
-Bratt has some numbers but he seems tiny and they haven’t really heard of him so he must not be that good
-Meier they’ve heard is good but he’s not a star like Kane
-Hamilton signed that awful contract so he’s a drain
-Siegen-who on the top pair? That can’t be good
-Tatar is being touted as good? He was a playoff scratch so imagine how bad the rest of the team is

Etc…at least I think that’s how fans from outside this area view some of the Devils key pieces for the playoffs.

It's actually 9 days, but the point still stands.

It's worse than the playoffs because they wouldn't play that many games in such a short span.

Much like a certain stretch in December where there was a meltdown around here, we could easily come out of this segment with a losing record and still be encouraged depending on how they play.

Devils should get smashed in some of these games due to the scheduling. Hopefully people don’t start jumping off buildings.

Having a two 3 games in 4 night stretches in a less than 2 week period is brutal.

I don't understand why everyone thinks it's so unlikely. We have a quarter of the season to make up 3 points and we just added a huge piece.
Because Carolina is a proven top team and doesn't typically falter for more than a few games at a time? All they have to do is keep pace with the Devils to win the division, whereas we have to out-pace one of the best teams in the league the rest of the way. Three points back with Car having a game in hand is not as close as you think.

I think it's unlikely, but not impossible.

Regardless of the Rangers, winning the division pays dividends in Bettmans idiotic playoff format.

It is not that unusual. I am sure you will hear similar comments about the Leafs-Lightning series. People will like TBL because of their previous playoff success and the Leafs failing to win a round with this core.

For posters that are looking to bet that is a good thing - they will get better odds on NJD if that is the prevailing wisdom

That is a packed schedule. How tough that stretch is depends on what Tampa is at that point. They have not played well as of late and are bleeding shots and chances against. Will they bounce back or are they being exposed?
