Because Carolina is a proven top team and doesn't typically falter for more than a few games at a time? All they have to do is keep pace with the Devils to win the division, whereas we have to out-pace one of the best teams in the league the rest of the way. Three points back with Car having a game in hand is not as close as you think.

I think it's unlikely, but not impossible.
Carolina is the favorite, but they have a head to head matchup remaining with Carolina so it isn’t as daunting.

You win the head to head matchup and then you are looking at just being a game or so better than them the rest of the schedule. It is doable.

What about Zadarov out of Calgary as possible trade in summer....He's a pretty physical reliable LHD

Already have Smith and Bahl. Zadorov's at 3.75 mil. Would rather go a bit higher and keep Graves if anything. No interest in Zadorov.

Yeah I see Graves going higher closer to 5 or over....Zadarov plays a much more physical game and at 3.75 I think it's a good option because Graves will probably want term as well

Jensen signed for a little over 4x3. If you can keep Graves on a similar deal I do that. Regardless of Graves though I don't want Zadorov at 3.75.

Devils should get smashed in some of these games due to the scheduling. Hopefully people don’t start jumping off buildings.

Having a two 3 games in 4 night stretches in a less than 2 week period is brutal.
I want the Devils to bring up Geersten for that Florida game.

Tkachuk is long overdue for an asskicking for what he did to Nico.

I thought the same thing. I don't know much about Conor Murphy out of Chicago but I think in both cases their salaries would make it tough (and the hawks probably wouldn't move Murphy).

After that "Devs need a Bad ass mofo defenseman tweet" I immediately thought 'that's right, we do'...

But I'm wondering if there is a BAMF mode on Graves or Dougie or Siegs.

With their size, we can hope.

The fwd with grit thing is going to be tough bc we would also get slow now, with the best pieces (Hathaway et al) gone or overpriced (Crouse). I think the best we can hope for is maybe an Athanasiou?

I’m guessing he does play Friday and that not playing today isn’t really minded by the coaches. Giving them some more time to explain the complicated defensive system and let him watch it in person from the stands is probably more helpful than getting him in the lineup asap.

I expected Friday when the move was made. Hopefully that happens

Seeing the Devils talk about the game tonight and needing to use their speed which is their strength made me think about the most recent games.

I think the Devils still try to start the game with skating the puck through the neutral zone and over the offensive blue line and other teams sell out completely to stop the Devils from skating it over.

The next bit excludes the 4th line.

To my eyes, the Devils plan B has gotten much stronger recently. Earlier in the year when the Devils would start dumping pucks in they were forechecking traditionally along the boards and without much speed. Now the Devils are often dumping pucks in with another player already starting the forecheck with speed.

Also, I think the Devils are trying to win pucks quickly, picking it out of the player or boards, and either the Devils get the puck with some speed or they allow the other team to try and break the puck out again. Allowing the other team to try and skate the puck out of the zone is better for the Devils skilled guys than wasting energy in a board grind.

I’ve complained the Devils haven’t done enough adjusting this year but I do think they’ve come up with a more effective plan B, when they need to dump the puck in, than they had earlier in the year.

I remember how often Vince Dunn got talked about in this forum a few years back. Took a bit, but he finally got that blow up that people were expecting all those years ago.

He was pretty awesome on the Blues run in 2019, not sure why Armstrong made all those bone headed moves on the backend between trading and signing Faulk, signing Krug which essentially made Pietro go to Vegas. I wanted him a ton but Graves is pretty good too for what they were building on the back end.

I like Zadarov too and when we played them he played against our speed pretty good and was very physical with us....I know Athanasiou has speed but does he play a physical game haven't seen him play much?....Wish Graves and Ham would use their size but that's never been Dougies game....Siegs is most physical out of the three imo...

What’s the status of Blackwood’s injury. I know he is IR, but could this be a long term injury where we could put him in LTIR and open up cap space?

It's hard to see that if Blackwood isn't genuinely in need of a month or so to rehab. If Schmid gets lit up you don't have any plan B except Daws.

No idea, I guess we'll see, but that would make things extremely complicated and I don't know why they would do that.
