Not to derail this thread entirely but just getting into enjoying Woodford Reserve as of late. I'm a complete rookie when it comes to enjoying bourbon and was told by my buddy it was good stuff. Has not disappointed.

My go to is a giant bottle of Bulleit from Costco, mostly because I'm not generally drinking it neat or in an old-fashioned, but rather in things like Manhattans and Boulevardiers.

If I wanted a sipping bourbon I'd probably go with something else. One I tried last year called Larceny was pretty good, but I don't think it's the top shelf stuff by any means.

TaN can be a follow up but Woodford is always the first "pricey" bourbon I suggest for folks not sure if they like bourbon. Then I tell them try Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden, and Michter's. Bulleit is my next step up to Evan Williams. Priced decent enough you don't feel guilty making a cocktail with it but very fine straight if you're not looking for super nuanced flavor notes. Also available at Costco on the cheap.

Everyone head over to the TaN! I was just going to mention Larceny as a mid-tier between Bulleit and Woodford lol. I like it's flavor - deeper and holds up to a little ice nicely.

I’m going way off topic here . For possible bottom 6 options in the offseason , what do you think we should do . Who do we keep amd who do we let walk / trade / not qualify ?
Who are the locked in , for sure , bottom 6 guys and where do they play (3rd or 4th line )
Id really like to see if we can get Ross Colton off of Tampa as one piece . RFA currently making 1.1 mil. Shouldnt break the bank , perfect bottom 6 player. Grew up in NJ and was a huge Devils fan. Versatile , skilled , has good size . I can’t see Tampa being able to keep him but then again, his salary shouldnt be too much over league min to make that much difference for them?
What do we do with McLeod , Bastian , Wood , Sharangovich , Boqvist , Haula , Foote , Thompson , Clarke , all options for the bottom 6. Does Tatar get extended and stay in the top 6? Does Holtz make the roster amd take a spot , making one of the guys I listed expendable?
Wood - Miles should be a lock to leave. He's expensive, he's terrible, and he's a winger,

McLeod - McLeod I would like to see go, because I don't think he brings all that much, but he's been better recently and he's our best PKer, so if he can stay cheap, I'd give him another couple years and not feel too awful about it. Lazar being here for 2 more years might show him the door, though. He's not capable of playing up from the 4th line.

Shara - Shara has to be gone. Can't afford him, probably.

Boqvist - This is Boqvists best season to date, he looks like a legitimate 3rd liner and has positional flexibility. Plus he shouldn't become too expensive, he's only got 16 points.

Haula - Would love to bring him back if he's cheap, but ultimately I suspect he's replaceable.

Thompson - He'll be in camp fighting for a spot, but ultimately I just don't think he's very good.

Clarke - In camp also, but I think he will probably end up being the favorite for the Wood spot.

Beyond the bottom 6 guys, I'd like to try and bring back Tatar. He's 32 now, has made like 40M, and may be looking to settle down if somebody doesn't come in with a long deal. He really drives play like you wouldn't believe, and every line he's on looks f***ing great. I wouldn't want to sign him for like 5 years, because that's just a logjam, but he's a smart enough guy to remain useful even as he slows down.

In theory, you can say Jack’s shooting percentage should go up, but his shot selection has been terrible. His power and accuracy is off. Shots from the side of the net arn’t going to work, no mater how many shots he takes. It’s a great tool when he is on his game but it’s a bad habit when his shot accuracy is down. That post he hit gives me hope. There was some zip to that.

Just 'off'. He almost won the game though in the seconds before the Wild did.

Might be linemates, might be that he's feeling the 'targeting' as the game are intensifying, he might be knicked up.

Gustavson saw a ton of rubber but outside of Bratt's chance there wasn't a while lot of great chances. Felt like he was catching lobs from the point all night. His rebound control was great. He saw every puck.

I can't really remember more than one of Jack's chances and that's pretty rare as they almost always get me out of my seat this year
EDIT: Put raw counts in the stats under the spoilers

Yes, the one thing that Hughes isn’t getting is his typical large amount of High Danger chances (your favorite stat!).

Since a comparison between the last 17 games vs Rookie Jack was made, here’s the individual shooting stats.

(I just threw Hits in there more for the hell of it, he has so few Hits in general that they don’t tell us much of anything.)

While it’s definitely disappointing and not a good thing, I’m not that worried because he doesn’t have to kill himself getting better scoring chances in these games. We’re in the playoffs.

If we play the Rangers in the first round and they can shut him down then I’m worried.

I disagree about it being a year long problem and I believe the stats back me up.

There was a drop in high danger chances, he’s just not going to the net and he’s not playing nearly as physical as he was earlier in the season.

I actually think they can sustain Hughes being mediocre in a Rangers series, he'd have to show up in a Florida or Isles series more imo funny enough. The Devils are going to absolutely shackle the Rangers third pair and probably that overrated Mid (Kid) line

That's fair. He made them look like lobs tho, lol. I was impressed with their commitment to defense. They could actually be tough in the playoffs if they play like they have the past few games

I thought their team defense was great too and it paired well with their goalie’s great rebound, it’s lethal combination.

They had terrible special teams last season, that was a huge killer for them. Their PK is much improved.

They need a ver productive power play with this style though, like Boston in recent years (other than this year’s juggernaut).

The PP’s gotten better too though, though they need more to be a top team.

Well, he definitely is the glue of the 4th line.
Hes been good for sure but that second in HDC sounds funny when you read it in the context of a fourth liner lol

Foote-McLeod-Bastian should be a good fourth line going forward. Maybe Foote finds his way on the third line if he can take a step and we dont keep one of Haula or Tatar
