i'm late here - but a rule adjustment my friend came up with. We HATE the offsides challenge. Especially when like a minute goes by.

His change was basically... if you keep the ability to challenge offsides, then it goes away if the defending team touches the puck / has control (like a delayed penalty). At that point you can't challenge it.

The idea being the benefit gained by being a couple inches offside should be negated if the other team managed to get the puck. The challenge still has values for odd-man rushes, and quick bang bang plays.

They should have a challenge button in the bench area and the coaches have 10-15 seconds to challenge offsides and not have the benefit of waiting it out until the next stoppage if they never get it out of their zone.

With this weekend back to back how do you see the goalie starts going?

Would Vanecek play both? Or more likely that Schmid gets one? If so, which game does Schmid get?

Just purely guessing but I would think Vanacek plays Saturday and Schmid plays Sunday; that gives each the most rest possible while splitting the back to backs.

I agree. Schmid played well last night against TB. Give him the redemption game Sunday.

Jack has 5 points in his last 3 games. His offense has looked slightly better the last few games (even though last night he seemed to press it a little), maybe he gets rolling here. We all k ow how talented this kid is.

Down goes Brown had the same idea, you lose the ability to challenge offside if the other team controls the puck.

I would just get rid of it completely.

Offside plays don’t lead to goals, they lead to chances.

Some chances become goals, most don’t. By only reversing the plays that do become goals you’re introducing a serious distortion.

I have a whole list of these.

- coaches will have their own whistles. If a coach believes his team is in the zone offside, he can can blow the whistle to stop play and take a nz face off to avoid having his team score a wasted goal.

- Coaches are expected to be fair minded, and so at least 33% of a coach’s challenges must be on goals that their own team scored.

- If a coach is facing an overturned goal due to offside, the coach can go further back in time to see if the other team committed an offense that led to the offside. Going by the standard of the current offside review rule, any prior offense that was committed will be considered to have led to the offside. If such counter challenge is successful, the goal is restored and the coach that originally challenged the goal is suspended for one game, for trying to get one over on the refs.

Each coach has a spare puck in his pocket the whole game. Once per game, when play is stopped, he can scream PLAY ON and throw this extra puck onto the ice anywhere he wants. The old puck immediately becomes dead and the new puck is live. This cannot be challenged.

This is good. This is how the coach will challenge a stoppage he disagrees with. The coach instantly restarts play with the new puck and the stoppage challenge is reviewed at the next stoppage.

It shouldn’t be limited to one though. How is that fair? What if there is more than one wrongful stoppage in the game?

If multiple consecutive stoppages are challenged, when there is finally an unchallenged stoppage the refs will review each challenge to determine if the play should really have stopped at that point. They will reset the clock and game state to the earliest correctly called stoppage. The coach that challenged that particular stoppage will be penalized, along with either coach that challenged subsequent stoppages, as they should have known that play should have stopped already.
