Thanks for this.

This is the type of analysis where I feel advanced stats are extremely helpful.

My main impression of Hamilton is as an extremely slow, half-interested defender. I still think that's true, but what this shows is how that kind of a player can still add value. I do wonder how much of the stats are a result of Siegs and improved forward play. But, breaking down the game into smaller pieces and identifying situations where players can be successful / what they reasonably could do better feels very useful to me.

The NHL should just do what the NFL does and let teams wear whatever jerseys they want. Let the home team decide and put in some rules about how far out you have to coordinate with the visiting teams and adjust for any road trips (so the visiting teams don't have to pack "home" and "away" jerseys on a single trip...though I'm not even sure if that's an issue).

It was interesting that Carolina was wearing their red helmets with their white jerseys. I would like to see the Devils wear their reds vs the Rangers shit blue. Lots of different color combos that would work on the ice. Just have to avoid red vs green because the NFL did that and it was a huge issue for color blind people and that's the most common color combination for color blind people.

This is from when the Jets wore their greens and Buffalo their reds with both having white helmets...

White jerseys at home >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> darks

Have always thought it makes zero sense why they every changed. Each arena then gets to see different colors for each team instead of white vs their teams dark color jersey.

its about the third jerseys but honestly why are there more dark third jerseys compared to white third jerseys?

a really good compromise to this though would be the playoffs they switch back to home whites. i would 100000000000000000% be fine with that compromise

with how much it probably costs and the logistics and payroll involved of bringing the equipment with the team they should honestly have storage near/at the arena for every team. i wonder if that would be more cost friendly and even logistically possible. some items like skates would travel with the team.

Tell us what he exactly did last night in the 10 minutes he played ? You would honestly want this guy in your lineup taking away a spot from Sharanogivch (who actually can put up goals and assists) ? The 4th line is fine with Mcelod , Bastian and Wood. At worst you can take Wood out of the lineup and play Sharanogivch in the bottom 6 somehow. Losing a 4th round pick isn't the end of the world but easily is an overpayment for a fring NHLer...
No it's not. Those 4th rounder picks have essentially a zero percent chance of even being a "fring" NHLer. Lazar is a NHLer, you might not like it, you may not want Shara sitting in favor of Lazar, but that doesn't change the fact that he's very much a NHLer worth a 4th round pick.

Does anyone know if Wood is available for tonight’s game? If not, Rango would surely draw back into the lineup. If so, hopefully it lights a fire in his rear end. I like this player and am surprised he has regressed this season. It’s strange how he worked so well with Hughes in the past but this year the combo just doesn’t work.

He didn’t practice yesterday, so I assume he won’t play. I guess there was no morning skate today.

This isn't true. The Devils currently have 6 players on their roster who were 4th round picks or later - Graves, Sharangovich, Bratt, Palat, Haula, and Schmid.

I think it's a fair trade, but 'essentially zero' isn't zero - if I had to guess, I'd say about ~1-2 players from the 4th round become average or better, with 3-4 becoming fringe players.

That's 6 players, from various years, across multiple teams. The odds of one specific pick in the fourth round becoming Lazar is minuscule regardless of how you want to look at it. Those 6 are not the norm.

Value is set by other players who returned a 4th round pick, not what 4ths get you or how much you like them. It was also 2024 4th round pick, so that lessens the values.

I honestly don’t care enough to look and compare here. I simply don’t agree that a cheap defensive center, when you need one and can’t sign them yourself, isn’t worth that pick.

Would I have preferred it was a 5th? Sure, but this was the price. I get why we got him, you need some bottom six defensive depth and having that be a righty FOG for 1m is nice option.

I don't think anyone is that upset about losing a 4th and most agree it's whatever because it's playoff depth. But it's ok to say that and acknowledge that a 4th is not nothing at the same time.

If I had to put it on a scale, I don't think it's as important as a 3rd, but a bit more important than a 5th. But again, that's just my opinion.

But the 5th round is in the middle of our sweet spot!

That’s true, it’s our lucky round.

We’re getting two future NHL roster players in the 2024 5th round because we also picked up COL 2025 5th from San Jose in the Meier trade.

The highest he's been, obviously with how close those 6 guys are, it changes every game. But him and Seider are the only ones that starts with their first NHL game.

Nick Suzuki at 277 is the other in the 4th spot.

I like the Lazar trade because his contract is cheaper than FA to sign most C, and I think Devils will need a C next year cause McLeod will be unceremoniously dumped / Europe bound like Formenton.

I assume it's just easier to make designs with the colors of each team for the 3rds over trying to make different designs with white, there's only so much ya can do with a white jersey.

I think (?) all teams carry their dark and white sets to every game for the chance the other team cant wear their expected jerseys that night

I believe this happened with Toronto within the last decade at home; either they forgot their darks or the other team forgot their whites idr.

Or Im hallucinating - its been a long long day
