I listened to the Podcast.

Some of the extras were:

Confirmation of at least 1 team saying they’d trade for Meier without needing to talk extension with the agent.

They assume once the trade offers are down to a few finalists that the agent will get to discuss contracts with teams.

——————-

So no crazy revelations buts the process is still ongoing.
It’s coming quickly. We’re almost 2 weeks away,

Thanks for the recap. The only thing that concerns me is the other team that would be willing to trade for Meier without an extension in place.

Because that might be SJ's backup plan if Meier tries to force his way here by asking for different terms on his extension with different teams.

Otherwise, I assume SJ wants to maximize their return, so they would prefer to trade him extended.

f***, we’re going to overpay for him, just like we over overpaid for Palat.

For all his good qualities, Fitz’s lack of patience is going to kill us. Please prove me wrong, Fitz.

Meier is going to come in and be a core player, a top line player for right now and many years. He won’t be cheap but he’s worth it.
Holding onto a drafted player that won’t help for years because he’s cost controlled defeats trading for Timo. You’re getting him to win NOW. Next year, the next few years.
Off my soapbox.
This truly hurts.

....dude what lol "lack of patience"? We've been talking about Meier for months.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. Patience is letting other teams bid up and overpay for their trade targets and identifying players that are undervalued and getting them for minimal return.

Meier is the prize this year, before that it was Eichel, Hall, Stone, etc etc.

Boston is the patient team and they have Hall for $6 million. See how that works?

It’s not how the top teams function, bottom line. It’s nothing against Meier.

NJ is also playing terribly and has been for months. Carolina and Boston are the teams that should be making the win now trades, NJ took a step forward this year, but their real window probably opens in a year or two.

I truly have no idea what you're talking about man.
Sorry

Palat was a moderate overpay and even that doesn’t matter because we’re at least a year ahead of schedule than what most expected. He’s here now, contributing when we need him to. I don’t give a shit if he stinks in a couple years when his contract is a way smaller percentage of the cap (plus it’s not guarantee he falls off hard).

But a trade for an extended Meier is more than just a win now trade. If we were talking about giving up significant assets for a pure rental, I'd agree that it's not time for that.

But this is for a genuine first line forward in his prime, who fills a need we've had for years, and would instantly elevate our core. It's absolutely the type of move that is prudent for both now and the future.
