Unless it's a long-term, career threatening injury it really shouldn't matter - any team acquiring Holtz is doing so for his long-term potential, not this season.

Considering so many are down on him, seems like playing him might boost his value which may be at an all-time low. At least let him go down to the AHL & get lots of ice time and #1PP time to put up some solid stats and showcase his ability.
Idk how Holtz' value could be low!

Hes only 21 on a top-4 team; ice time is hard to come by!

I don't think it's actually low...but probably the lowest point it's been since he's been drafted.

I suppose that you could argue it dropped a bit after his D+1 season and went back up after the season he had in Utica. This year hasn't quite gone as expected, but I don't think it's tanked his value by any means. Just he's another season further away from being the #7 overall pick and more and more guys in his draft class are starting to have NHL success. Has to hurt his value a bit.

I think Holtz had lower value after coming over and had 3 points in 10 games. Now he’s at least proven he can do very well at the AHL level.

I don’t think his value has changed that much though. So I don’t think the swings are huge.

Thats fair!

I think whatever team acquires him will do so knowing he needs expanded playing time! Plus who can resist that shot of his

Id also love to keep him!

If Holtz goes in the lineup and looks bad, I think it lowers his trade value, in part because GMs/scouts rely on eye test and snap judgement calls, maybe not as much as before but it's likely there still and will never go away.

That’s Stillman. I know, boo hiss, but Pete fans do positively comment on his physical play and forechecking.
Yeah, I'd be happy to see this kid shut us all up. I'd like to think most people here can separate the player from the (flawed) process that arrived at the pick but maybe I'm too optimistic. Most important thing for me is that they've course corrected with this last draft that I think we were mostly quite enthusiastic about.

Re: Holtz, he's averaged 10 minutes of ice time and of his last five games, three of them were under 9 minutes. That's just not an adequate enough time to be down on a guy who was basically PPG in the AHL last year. He hasn't gotten enough of a chance.

I'd say it's a red flag when you're too good for the AHL and can't crack the NHL.

Our bottom 6 is atrocious, he should be able to sleepwalk his way into the lineup.

Offensively, yeah...he should be able to crack this lineup. Not sure if Ruff trusts him defensively though. He played a good game against Detroit with a goal and an assist that should've translated into more opportunity. The following night he got a bit more ice time but was -3 with 2 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Blues (not sure if he was on for the empty net goal or not). The following game against the Rangers he was -1 with no shots in a 4-3 win. I know +/- isn't a great stat, so maybe someone can add in whatever defensive or overall advanced stats there are for his last two games or overall season, but -4 in his past 2 games and a team worst -6 this season (next lowest is Bahl at -2) may suggest some defensive deficiencies in his game that need to be ironed out before he can be trusted to contribute on a playoff team.

Idk if Id call it a red flag.. more like being stuck in purgatory!

He just needs a team (or us) to make that decision for him to get him going!

Holtz won’t be effective in a bottom-6 checking role. Most high, offensive minded picks wouldn’t. If he’s being played, he should get a legitimate look with players who compliment his skillset in the top-6, not plugged in with the likes of Wood, Haula and McLeod.

Meh . Draisaitl turned out alright . I’m sure there are a bunch others that bounced around a little between the AHL and NHL Yet turned out alright. It’s not Holtz’s fault they decide to keep him up in NJ as a healthy scratch . Even if they think he doesn’t have anything to learn or benefit from in the AHL , at least he would be playing in game situations … But I get your point . It would be a little concerning for teams thwt we may offer Holtz for in trade.

Holtz is the type where playing in the bottom 6 isnt putting him in the best place to succeed. He is not a bottom 6 type player . He needs skilled players to play with and that’s not happening with ljne mates like Wood. It would be counter productive gettig him to learn the nhl game as a mucker / energy guy.

I don't disagree about his game, but talented players find a way to work their way up the lineup.
