Ah, fair enough then!

Edvinsson is at 0.56 PPG in his D+2, Nemec is at 0.41 in his D+1 with most likely much less PP time than Edvinsson. I agree that expecting similar production (about 0.6 PPG) from Nemec in his D+2 in the AHL is fair, especially since his PP time will most likely go up.

Edit: Also, Edvinsson would be 8th in scoring with Utica right now.
If Nemec was .6 right now he'd be 5th in scoring with 26 points (as opposed to 13th) 1 point behind both 3 or 4 that have 27 points.

Edvinsson would be in a 3 way tie for 6th on the Comets right now with 23 points.

Correct, I put him at 8th because he’d have the least amount of goals in the 3 way tie.

As I said, I agree expecting that type of production in his D+2 is fair.

Jim finding his next target. This bodes well for us.

#Nemec4Norris.
I actually think he likes Nemec quite a lot. At least, that’s what I’ve gathered from his comments on here.

I keep going back and forth on Vrana. I'm super interested, super concerned

It’s certainly a gamble because of the injury. He was so f***ing good though that it’s a risk I’d take. There’s a potential game changer in there and I’ll take the risk he doesn’t work over a more marginal move like a Nino who will help the team sure but he’s not going to make much of a difference.

Depending on the costs for both it might even be something I’d prefer over Meier. Now this wouldn’t happen but I think it even be hypothetically feasible to swing both and at that point the forward group is just comical. I wanted Vrana years ago as a winger for Jack or Nico but we were never a good partner for the Caps

Speaking of 2003...

I never heard this version of the Friesen goal against Ottawa before, just the one Thorne butchered with his 'NO, NO!' apparent belief of a disallowed goal...guess Bob Cole had his own issues mistaking Marshall (29) for Gomez (23) lol

His line changes? Ok, lol

I don’t think his shot selection is bad at all but his finishing is kind of shot (heh).

He’s had a couple lately that he didn’t just sort of muscle in or that bounced off him though, like his sorta one timer vs Minny and last night’s backhand goal. Nice to see.

Tatar is an excellent possession player, he’s just on the puck carrier a lot. He works really well in this system and just about everyone plays better with him.

I’ll always treasure how the multi-named poster who endlessly dragged @Hisch13r and others over the Tatar signing in the off-season to a ludicrous degree.

Just on and on about his awful he is and how he was always was a floating, defensively suspect product of his linemates in the Tatar-Danault-Gally line. And how wrong about hockey they are for liking the signing.

And turns out he can roughly be that same player further down the age curve (minus the same PP production, alas). So yeah.

Not so bad for a last call pick-up signed in August after everyone else turned Fitzy down at the bar.

For old times sake, Tatar>Tarasenko

You want chills? These videos were amazing when the team was putting them out in advance of the playoffs in 2009. The music is awesome, I actually have it as an mp3 somewhere.

And to tie in to the 2003 team, the Marshall triple OT goal is my favorite from that run because I was there (bias alert). Doc's call of it was amazing as well, one of his best in my opinion.

Holy f*** I can't wait for playoff hockey again.

I’ve definitely changed my opinion of Tatar. Watching him these past two or three months, he’s been one of our best players and especially lately getting puck possession on the forecheck. Not something I’d ever thought of him as particularly effective at before. Ditto finishing some chances in close. I had in the past thought of him as mainly scoring off the rush. But that’s not who he’s been for us this year at all. His game has been very well balanced.

I think 90% of the reason the play call was butchered is that patented Bill Murray face he made after he scored. Can't see it in this video but it always makes me laugh.

I could see a Severson trade making sense if the idea is to find a cheaper player with more control to replace him (Jake McCabe is on the market and they've heavily scouted Chicago). We've seen Fitz make that kind of forward thinking type of move before with Marino.

Not just Severson, but someone with term could also turn into a potential Graves replacement for next year too.

I'd prefer to re-sign Graves, but maybe his ask is crazy.

always makes me wonder what ifs. devils 95 claude scores super late game 5 conference finals. devils 2000 elias scores super late game 7 conference finals. and what you just shared in 2003. i'm sure there are a lot of franchises that have similar situations but man talk about some clutch goal scoring! good stuff

The difference between winning a game and losing is razor thin so many times. And that ultimately extends to winning the Cup since some of those are series changing or elimination games.

devils have just as many bad what-if’s, you just have to hope as a fan your team has just as many good as bad. for my money, the devils have gotten poor bounces more than they’ve gotten the ones that fall their way.

devils fail to get it done in 94. devils lose close series as the 1 seed back to back in 97 and 98. devils can’t close it out against colorado at home in 01. devils get their one last chance at a ride with the stevens/niedermayer core because of the lockout in 2005. devils can’t hang on to a late 1-goal lead in game 7 with one of their best post-lockout teams in 2009. mark fayne can’t hit the broad side of the barn in 2012.

In 2015-16, Vrana had a rough season, injuring his wrist in late Oct and missing +2 months after surgery. He had 39 AHL GP.
In 2016-17 he had 49 AHL GP and 21 NHL GP, with two separate call-ups.
In 2017-18 he had 73 GP because Trotz healthy scratched him 9 times.
In 2018-19 & 2019-20 he plays every game.
In 2020-21 he has 39 GP of the 43 Cap games before he’s traded. Laviolette healthy scratches him.

After the trade Vrana has 11 GP out of 12 in Detroit, missing one due to illness. (8G 3A 11 points in those 11 GP, get hyped!)

In 2021-22, he immediately injured his shoulder in his first practice in training camp. Came off the IR on March 8th, had 26 GP (13G 6A 19 points)

In 2022-23, he plays the first 2 games of the season. He misses the 3rd, Oct 17th vs LAK, “for personal reasons”.
He’s placed in the NHL/NHLPA’s player’s assistance program on Oct 19th. Vrana returns to practice on Dec 16th.

He gets a 3 AHL game conditioning stint from Dec 28th-31st, with zero points & -5. He’s then waived on Jan 3rd.
Between Jan 4th and Feb 11th Vrana plays 14 more AHL games. He has 6G 5A 11 points, with all but 1 assist coming in the last 9 games.

So the good new is he doesn’t have that terrible of injury history even though shoulder surgery is always a bit worrisome.

The bad news is… a lot. It’s one thing to struggle as a young player, on a playoff team, with coaches who can be hard them.

Detroit is a bubble team that’s 17th in goals and have a good amount of cap space to work with. They traded for him less than 2 years ago.

If they don’t want him then I don’t know where the confidence he can right the ship here comes from. Let Detroit buy him out.

Here he is looking completely lost in an interview as a Cap before the trade.

With how bad Pittsburgh has been recently and the murky future, it'll probably never happen with Sid and Malkin there + division tax but I'd kill for Jake Guentzel in a Devils uniform.

Trading him to Chicago would be utterly brutal, lmfao.

Not to be.....I dunno....crass...but I have to ask...

If a player goes into the assistance program, do they count against the cap?

They do not because you'd have the most random shit happening pre-trade deadline with guys coming out random addictions lol

I bet Schmid starts tomorrow night.

They haven't been shy about using him while he was up and that was likely gonna be a Blackwood game, especially with Ruff's comments about how we need both guys going with the schedule.

If we were hurting and a few points behind where we are right now (or if the Rangers hadn't cooled down) then MAYBE they give the game to Vanecek, since we do have 3 whole days without a game after it.

They probably still would have given it to Blackwood/Schmid anyway though.

I think Schmid has our one win against the Flyers this year too? While Blackwood and Vanecek both lost their starts against them.

Cuts both ways. Eric Staal in 2009, Stefan Matteau in 1994, Kopitar and Jeff Carter with back to back overtime goals in games 1 and 2 in 2012. That's playoff hockey.

That Kovy crossbar at the end of Game 2 with like 20 seconds left still haunts my dreams. If we score there the series is tied at 1 instead of being 0-2 going to LA.
