Severson is a weird one. Not a fan of the player but obviously it would have to be part of a bigger plan...otherwise you're just strengthening another contender.

I'd also feel bad about trading him once we're finally good, but he'd still be headed to the playoffs anyway.

It could also backfire if we need the depth come playoff time.

I'd take Sevo over a more responsible guy who is worse offensively and a worse puck mover on this current team. Maybe he's not needed as much when Luke gets here but with the current roster Sevo's puck moving is very important.

100%, our defensive core is a strength. No need to be stupid and ruin the right side before a playoff run. Nemec will be here next year anyway, I get the not wanting to lose Severson in UFA but at this point it's probably a given + this team deserves to keep him as their own rental of sorts.

Would be funny to see Severson score the GWG in a playoff series against us after all the shit this fanbase has given the guy. And sort of fitting for the team's first run.

Nemec shouldn't be here next year or at least not until late next year. Sevo isn't going to go anywhere. I bet it's more teams approaching Fitz and he's just listening but isn't actually going to move him and isn't out there shopping him around.

It’s only reasonable that if a team calls up Fitz and says, “I want to talk Severson” that he listen.

It doesn’t make much sense to move Severson but if a team offered something absurd then you have to take it and be happy that you are always open to listening to other teams.

Yep, nothing wrong with listening on guys and I'm sure Severson would be a top rental if the Devils weren't good this year but things change. I'm surprised the Leafs didn't try getting him last year at 50%, seems like such a Dubas move.

I would also say that if San Jose really wants two first rounders in this draft for Meier, it would probably be worth it to trade Severson to make it happen.

The line "but that has been targeted" makes it sound like we're the ones seeking out a specific criteria.

what does EF mean by "that has been targeted"? teams have reached out to the devils about him?

Devils have probably looked for trades that might be player for player because we wouldn't trade Severson for futures and if we did it would be for another first to help us in a Meier trade and probably in the West so it doesn't come back to f*** us in a playoff series this year.

I read it as other teams calling about Severson. Other teams targeting Severson, not the Devils making Severson available to everyone.

I'm pretty sure that's also something he's said in the past pretty recently and he's said we're not shopping him. Maybe that's changed since but I'm with you here.

I'm kind of nervous about the idea of having two rookie defenders in the lineup next year.

Hughes doesn't scare me, he's built for the new NHL. Nemec is a work in progress with just having his pro first year and having ups/downs. Wouldn't be surprised if the Devils sign a stop gap RHD for cheap like they did with Smith if they don't think Nemec is ready opening night 2023.

Nemec has had a fine AHL year but he hasn't been nearly good enough to make me think he'll be ready and should be in the league next year over another AHL year. Maybe he makes a big jump over the offseason but I wouldn't count on it.

Yea it would have to be a Coleman like move, teams need to want him enough to actually go hard to get him as apposed to "being shopped."

I trust Fitz wouldn't be shopping him but also not turn down a massive overpay.

I'm more afraid of Luke than Nemec. I personally think it's going to take Luke more time than it will Nemec to acclimate.

Nemec is a more controlled thoughtful player. Luke is a go-go risk taker and it is going to take Luke some time to figure out the limits he can push...

That's my hunch anyway
