I rode about 7 to 8 miles yesterday with the gearing cranked up.

Then my wife brought me home a piece of chocolate mousse cake that probably weighed 10 pounds. It was a shame I had to eat almost the whole piece. Thankfully the dogs demanded I share some of it to save me from myself.

Damn, are you that soft? (As I feed ours table scraps).

Shayna from the Athlectic gave her take on what went wrong in NJ this year. One thing I found interesting is that by the Athlectic model the Devils depth forwards actually produced fine compared to expectations coming into the season. Obviously it is just a model and far from perfect, but I thought it was worth posting tis chart from the article. The model really was in line with the "eye test" with respect to how much McLeod improved this year.

The issue is that we had horrendous goaltending and key injuries while the offensive depth was fine.

Then when got a little healthier and the goaltending became passable, we lost Toffoli, Bastian, and McLeod and the offensive depth went to shit.

No Hamilton and basically no Jack for the full season is also a killer.

I agree with @Guttersniped that Hughes playing as LW is injury-related. And the Devils should find cheaper solutions than Lindholm, Stephenson or other UFA centers.

They probably will trade for an expensive goalie and maybe a top4 defenseman. It would be quite difficult to make room for all of them and Lindholm. I also wouldn't be surprised if Lindholm's next contract is too expensive for what he brings to the table.

Well, if I’m playing GM Mode, I wouldn’t have an expensive goalie. I’d rather Lindholm than an expensive goalie but I understand the trauma from this season

Lindholm isn't going to be cheap. He hasn't really played well with the Canucks either. Seems like every top player on that team is on their game this year but he's been underwhelming for them. It would be alot of money tied up to our top 3 centers too. Stephenson would be the one I would target the most of those 3.

Nico and Hughes taking pay cuts has to pay off at some point. Stephenson would be good.

You can give golden retrievers small amounts of uranium and they’d be fine. A quarter ounce of chocolate won’t kill them. We had one that ate an entire bag of Hershey kisses and we made him barf it up but I doubt they all got purged. He was fine. Anyone who has retrievers will tell you they are living garbage disposals. They had a bit of the cake. Maybe an ounce each? They are fine. Bugging me for some sandwich as I type this.

Chocolate is way less poisonous to dogs than most people think, at least generic shitty stuff (fancy high cacao stuff is worse). For milk chocolate, a medium sized dog can eat like a pound or more and be fine.

My parents Labs have eaten a goodly amount and they didn’t even bother to puke.

I still err on the side of caution with chocolate, onions/garlic, and grapes, but ya I probably don’t need to.

One time my older dog ate an entire plate of pecan squares. We called the emergency vet hotline in a panic because Google was inconclusive about whether pecans were toxic to dogs.

But they weren’t at all worried about the pecans, their main question was, “how much sugar did she eat?” They thought she might vomit or have diarrhea from that, but in the end she was fine.

Yeah, don't give your dogs chocolate. It's bad for them.

But dogs are wild in general very resilient creatures. My wife's old boss has a dog, weighed maybe 120 pounds, so a big boy. He once ate an entire bag of avocados (for a party, so legitimately like 15 avos) pits and all. Totally fine. At other various times, he also ate a baseball and a small bottle of perfume.

That dog just had a hunger than could not be satiated.

I've heard chocolate is poisonous to dogs, but I've also heard about people feeding it to their dogs and nothing happening at all.

I wouldn't feed it to mine, but I also wouldn't freak out if she ate a trace of it off a crumb off my candy bar that fell on the floor before I could pick it up.

Not sure if bigger dogs can handle it better or not. Mine is a small, 12-ish pound Chihuahua.

Correct. I had a Golden who would turn 19 tomorrow, but she lived to 17 years, 7 months, 2 days.

In her last few years she consumed the following:

- An entire bag of a kid's halloween candy (except for the runts, she didn't like those) wrappers and all
- Milk Chocolate box
- Dark Chocolate Liquor Cherries - entire box

She survived it all.

She also, when younger, ate a poison bee.

Yes, size matters. The amount vs the size. A 12 lb Chihuahua will die faster from chocolate than a 65 lb golden or a 120 lb great pyrenees, given the same amount

I expect him to get shut down after the next loss that puts us out, it's basically pointless to trot him out there now with the season fully cooked

Jack is gonna go back to center next year, the bigger issue is getting Haula back to the 22/23 form. Even if he's a lousy finisher, he still needs to get back to being a line driver with Jack. At this point, it's obvious why the guy jumps around a ton from team to team, guy was a 25+ goal scorer in Vegas and they let him go quickly.

100%, I said it the other day that I have no issue with the core. They're the only ones actually scoring and contributing anything offensively
Eh, Luke has been polarizing as has Nemec but they're kids so they get a pass. Jack, injured or not, has had some really glaring issues but I'm certainly not "worried" about the core.

For the first ~60% of the season, the offense did a fine job but was let down by goaltending.

Since then, the offense has declined and the improvement Allen has given us, while refreshing, has not been enough to make up for our lackluster offense.

Depth isn’t there. Gonna need to be addressed in this summer. IMO needs to be minimum of three new middle six type bodies up front that aren’t here right now. But I also think dipshit behind the bench these days isn’t helping matters in terms of the offense

He's better than Nosek, better than Tierney, better than Willman, etc. Kinda don't get why they bailed on him.

They bailed on him because those guys weren't at all penciled into the lineup - McLeod was here at the beginning of the year, and Foote was waiver-eligible so he wasn't likely to be sent down at all. Boqvist is an ES-only player who was playing 4th line minutes, and who passed through waivers at the beginning of the season. They didn't want to keep a guy who had worked his way out of the starting lineup and who had no real role when he was in the lineup. As a first callup from Utica, he'd be fantastic. It's easier for a guy to do that sort of thing in another organization.

Boqvist was a lot like Sharangovich in the fact that he was a victim of last year's depth. He had opportunities to distinguish himself and failed to do so. Decent 4th liner, but we had a lot of those.

If you could get a time machine and tell Fitz that McLeod, Bastian, Nosek, Foote, and Tierney would be non-factors this season then Boqvist is probably brought back. But moving on from him was the right call at the time.

I also wouldn't take his stats in Boston seriously, they are much better at sheltering mediocre players than we are.

He can skate the puck up the ice well. We need better transition players next season for our bottom 6
