With 60 games played and 64 points and looking at the Wild Card positions I think Fitz should not be buying unless he is buying for the future..not this season. I hate to post this but it is my position.

Ruff and Green will use the excuse that injuries were the problem. They may say that goaltending also hurt but they were part of the decision making to go with Vanacek and Schmid. They might also argue that the mix of young versus veteran defensemen was a problem (no team goes with that many young defensemen and makes the playoffs). Again, they were part of that decision.

IMO the Devils gambled with the goalie players and lost. Why Fitz extended Ruff, I do not know, yes he can fire him at anytime. The players liked Ruff. Travis Green, we all know why he is with the team. The Devils suffered a major lost when Andrew Burnette became HC of Nashville instead of New Jersey.

Onto '24-25

I will be totally surprised if they make the playoffs this season, it will be because other team's had significant setbacks.

Yeah I’m just waiting for the excuses in the end of season press conferences from the GM and coach. Goaltending and injuries. It’s gonna happen and will be absolutely infuriating. Funny because they have been worse since getting healthy.

It's just a funny picture

Very creepy to me but okay.

Gustav Forsling is a UFA at the end of the season. Florida will probably find a way to keep him but in the chance they don't he'd be a better addition for the Devils than Hanifin and should be cheaper too.
There is Gustafson on Rangers also having good year

Shit, I would pay up a ton for Forsling if he reached UFA. He’s a stud. I still find it hard to believe Florida would move on from him just to bring in hanifin and extend him at a similar $$$. But they are gonna be up against it with Reinhardt sad seemingly the priority plus a bunch of others needing new deals between this summer and next.

He's a 4/5 guy. Watching him in the VAN market, that's what he is. If you're relying on him in your top-four, he's going to disappoint you. If you want to be a contender, Zadorov can't be in your top-four.

His contract will be too pricey for what he is.
That is true have to be the right deal....

I have a feeling that after the deadline we are going to be less two of the following: Holtz, Mercer, Gritz, Lenni.

I wouldn't mind just running it back with this defensive unit under a new coaching staff. Hamilton will be back, Hughes, Nemec and Bahl are all young and improving and Siegs and Marino were both great last season when this team was running on all cylinders.

I think focusing on adding more defensive minded forwards will help take the pressure off the defense. Right now who outside of Hischier can be considered an impact forward defensively? That's a big reason why I think bringing back Toffoli is a poor decision for team composition, we need some forwards that are tough to play against.

Didn't realize he was soft ....I would like Zadarov on defense and Trennin on the wing...

I'd love Forsling + Henrique in UFA, goalie trade + new coach. That'd be my dream offseason quite frankly

Well as disgusting as it is, root for the Flyers + TB tonight so the gap gets higher and Fitz legitimately can't buy. FWIW, a Markstrom trade wouldn't hurt me as much if the price is lower

LOL Fitz has shown less than zero urgency all year and people really think at 11:59 with the team several points out now he's going to revert dramatically off form? If he was capable of that kind of a desperation trade for short-term solutions, he should have been capable of actually doing something before the final minute of the eleventh hour first.

He's insulated himself from fan/media pressure and there's literally zero pressure on Fitz from above, he just got an extension and the owners aren't exactly win-now despite being willing to spend. Like someone else said the owners only care about being competitive and interesting enough to keep jacking up prices and having fans come through the turnstile. So why exactly would he do a desperation trade if he's shown zero inclination to do ANYthing to rock the boat and has zero pressure on him?

I'd want a LHD, Bahl clearly can't handle the mins + can't depend on Siegs or Luke to be the top LHD 100%.

He traded for Timo a week before the deadline last year, he's not saving this team lol. He's also been on record saying that day of trade deadline trades do the team and player a disservice and wants guys in ASAP if he can to assilmate with their new teammates

Neither is Markstrom?
Is he gonna sign Markstrom to a max eight year extension? I'd worry about Fitz's sanity if that was the case.

He traded for Timo with a year and a half left to make him a Devil for life or close to it. If he's trading for Markstrom on a two year deal without any rationale or reason to try to sign him longer term the price and conversations are gonna be a little different. Calgary wants the ransom, Fitz hasn't bit yet and doesn't have much reason to at the moment.
