I know we've all been fawning over what he's done, so why not continue?

There was a "stretch" where Jack went pointless in 2 of 3 games, the last one being against Toronto when our winning streak ended. Since essentially Thanksgiving, starting 11/25, here are his numbers.

29 GP, 26 G, 17 A, 43 P, +9, 4 PPG, 4 GWG, 137 Shots (lol), 19% shooting, 20:44 ATOI
1 hat trick
6 multi-goal games (hat trick included)
14 multi-point games, including the last 4 games in a row
Only 3 games without collecting a point

I remember Hall's point streak being something insane in terms of number of games and I wish I could find more video to appreciate Patty's insane run he had in 05-06 returning from his illness, but this stretch by Jack feels like it is approaching the most dominant scoring pace in our team's history. I can't wait to see how he finishes this season.

High praise from the Great One himself. I don't think Hughes will ever be better than McDavid, but he has a credible claim to being the second best forward in the league, probably for years to come.

Yeah no one is catching McDavid. I think Jack's been the 2nd best player in the league this year. To me Jack's going to be in that group under McDavid. He could be like Matthews. I think Matthews last year was actually better than McDavid but the difference between McDavid and Matthews is that Matthews this year has taken a step back and isn't in the discussion this year while McDavid's there every since year and you have years where it's not even a question. Jack could maybe be better than McDavid in a year but he won't be doing it on a consistent basis

Parise must come home and make amends like Scotty Gomez.

Gomez is still one of my favorite Devils despite going to the Rangers.

Gomer kind of ended up getting the karmic backlash that our fans probably wanted when he got dealt to Montreal and became the butt of the joke when he couldn't score a goal. Not to mention having his return stint where he actually played fairly well.

He's a hard guy to dislike, great personality.

Strangely I feel that way about Holik more so...still do not forgive Niedermeyer

I mean Jack's current 21 year old season is pacing in the same ballpark as McDavid's. But I don't know if Jack is going to make another quantum leap like McDavid has currently.
Scoring it up everywhere though, for a simple comparison McDavid's 21 yo season he had 108 points which was the most in the league. Jack is currently 9th in points even though he's on pace for 107 points.

In Holik's case especially, the money he was offered was so exorbitant that it was hard to fault him taking the deal. Pre-cap days of course, but him making $9 million a year was wild.

He's such an underappreciated beast. I loved him when I was younger.

McDavid is just so dominant at times that it’s hard to envision anyone else being at that level.

You can be an incredible player and still be a tier below McDavid with no shame.

Hall’s streak being at 19 is B.S. I understand he missed a few games at the end of January ‘18 but he had points in 26 straight games in which he played. I don’t understand why they break scoring streaks if a player gets injured, he didn’t play in the game.

Offensively it's really not all that close. Jack defensively does seem to have a pretty big edge. Overall McDavid's on another level from everyone else.

The personality definitely helps.... he's hilarious.
Coming back to play here helped as well.

The thing with Gomez I realized was trying to look at it objectively, he won 2 cups here. Not like there was unfinished business. If I was his age and I was getting offered a large amount of money to play and live in New York City, I do it. I couldn't really fault him for that.

I don't really care about how my favorite players measure up to the rest of the league...I only care about what they did for the Devil's.

And I don't care about era or adjusting numbers for the time...I want to see 50 goals and 100 points and the first Devil to do that will have a special place in organization history no matter what the scoring rate of the league is.

How much time needs to go by for a player to say "I was not going sign with a club on the verge of being taken over by the league or going to play second fiddle and take less than what they offered Kovalchuk"?

I figured you were talking about the quotes that I posted, which had nothing to do with the Devils.

Niedermayer repeatedly got dicked around by Lou in negotiations and he left to win a Cup with his brother. I don't really fault him too much for leaving. Still one of my favorite Devils all-time, thus the 27 in my handle. My older son also wears #27 for Niedermayer despite never actually having seen him play.

Jack needs 17 goals in 33 games to reach 50G, and 36 points in 33 games to reach 100P.

It’s definitely doable. I’m more confident he’ll reach 100 points and at least break the points record, but 50G is definitely possible for him.

*Friendly reminder that this guy is ours for 7 years after this one, is only 21 and isn’t even in his prime yet.*

If he plays the games he'll break the record. I think missing time is what would stop him.

Regardless of the narratives that were spun during the time...

I honestly believe Niedermeyer leaving cost us cups. 30 minutes a night from him along with Rafalski, Martin and White is 3 other levels from what we iced after the lockout.

He left a void that we couldn't fill for over a decade. That coupled with the simultaneous retirement of Stevens was impossible to overcome.

Great player for sure... can't forgive what he did to the organization and I actually hate seeing his number in the rafters.

I’m pretty certain he’s reaching 100 points. 50 goals would be crazy though.

To be honest, for the style of player he was projected to be, 40 goals is a great accomplishment in itself.

Well...you do you then. I think he was the biggest loss in franchise history, but I don't blame him 100% for leaving. As much as I admire Lou, that was a major fault of his was that he too often let major UFA's walk. Niedermayer was a HOFer, franchise player and maybe Lou shouldn't have gone so balls-to-the-wall in his contract negotiations with him. That's ultimately what drove him away. Lou was also rumored to have tried to trade for Rob Niedermayer while Scott was still on the team, but that ultimately fell short. I'm glad #27 is hanging from the rafters and was at the Prudential Center that night cheering him on.
