Golf cart DUI sounds more like an achievement unlocked more than anything at this point.

As the deputy was writing out a citation, Brunette, the owner of the golf cart, came out of the bar and told the deputy he was leaving, per the report.

The deputy observed Brunette’s speech was slurred and that he was unsteady on his feet as he handed over the citation.

Seventeen minutes later, the deputy said he saw Brunette leave the area driving the golf cart and observed him run two stop signs, after which a traffic stop was conducted.

Deputies said when they asked Brunette for his documents, he provided the registration and insurance for the golf cart, but handed over his wife’s driver’s license and stated it was because he wasn’t driving, according to the arrest report.

A field sobriety test was conducted and afterward, Brunette was taken into custody on multiple charges including DUI and disobey of a stop or yield sign.

He was taken to the Broward County Main Jail.

I would say that maybe this teaches all of you that like to jump to conclusions and judge people before knowing the evidence on things but…. Naaaah, who would I be kidding.
We reacted to the news, but no one was really jumping to any conclusions. The general thought was we needed to hear the whole story. But instead of it being the worst case scenario that Brunette is a problem drinker, we get golf cart dui.

Edit: And I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't undergo some sort of counseling, which was pretty much my stance from the get go.

I would like to see Severson dealt in a pseudo-three team deal for Meier if they go for a trade.
Its the kind of asset management that allows you to be competitive for a long period of time.

Severson @ 75% is around $1mil salary/year. The return would be huge. They can ship off Johnsson also who is only due something like $250k left from his salary.

They kind of need defensemen for the playoffs.

I've been all for incrementalism with the rebuild but we have a legitimate shot despite how young we are. Zero reason to piss it away by moving a good player. Part of why Boston has been dominant is the relative weakness of the league as a whole. A lot of fading empires along with immature squads. I think we can make some noise, especially if we nab Timo.

More worried about the bottom six in the long run but we have so much depth there that we can see who rises to the challenge.

He's the 3rd pair RD when Marino gets back. Wasn't putting up offense and still making mistakes.

I'd be fine with Smith there because all his penalties turn into strong hockey plays once the playoffs come.

Huh? There was a ton of people jumping to conclusions and going way overboard.

And I’d be suprised based on this story if he did undergo some sort of counselling. Unless he actually has a drinking problem which this story doesn’t indicate. On vacation in Florida with his wife at a bar. Hardly suggests he has drinking problems and needs counselling.

First two posts on the main thread.

Two very measured responses with the humility and sensitivity that are these posters’ trademarks.

Really wisely recognized we needed to wait for more information beyond the initial “SCOOP!” tweet before jumping to any conclusions.

I probably not supposed to do this sort of thing but my disgust level is pretty high here. I get that one is Rags troll, not sure what the excuse is for the other one’s innuendo.

Got your over-the-top hot takes in first guys though, so congrats.

Whiskey is just a hot take as many tend to do on this topic. He's a Devils fan that for some reason just posts in the main boards. Generally a pretty good eye for prospects and I think he's mostly here just to talk prospects and hockey in general.

In fairness both those posts were before the details came out.

Yeah who cares though. It’s posts on a message board.

If we gonna make fun of every bad post people make gonna be here all night (and that’s just for my own from the last week)

Yeah it’s irrelevant. It’s not like these are people in positions of power making hasty decisions before the details are out

My guess is that if you asked most people they wouldn’t think you can get a DUI in a golf cart. My understanding is that in some places you literally can’t sit in a vehicle’s driver seat with the ability to start the vehicle if you are over legal limit. Really extreme stuff. But then again some places allow carelessness to count as intent at times which is wrong as I see it but the law is a cruel mistress as they say. I’m glad it’s just a goofy one off. He likely will have some repercussions from this though. The anti drunk driving groups are dead serious about even these sorts of incidents. I would be surprised if he serves any jail time beyond his booking and arraignment but it will cost him a pretty penny and I won’t be surprised if he has to perform some significant community service and has something on his record subject to Florida’s expungement laws. Of course the people licking their chops and going to Vegas will be his car insurer after they get the conviction and raise his rates to the stratosphere.

Holy Crap I know exactly where that is! My wife has family in Deerfield Beach right by the Fishing Pier...I took her cousins fishing there in the early 1990"s. One of them is a Deerfield Beach firefighter/paramedic... apparently firemen do both in Deerfield Beach. I am going to call him and see if he knows anything.
