lol how wrong, Alex Ferguson left and old and average team and he knew it when he jumped ship to retire. That title they won in 2013 before he left was one the worst seasons (quality wise of the league) in this millenium.

????

Exactly?

He left on a high? Lou hung on and ended up fired by the org that made him a legend??!

I'm sure Pats fans will hate Bill Bellichick when he goes after not winning again and being mediocre for last few years.

If they think Belichick's management style is actively harming the team, they will feel differently about him, yes. I don't think they will feel that way and it's a false analogy. In Lou's final season, the Devils were the oldest team in the league, they were capped out, they were being coached by him and two assistants, and they finished 6th worst in the standings in a year when 3 franchises were actively trying to lose.

Lou has a tremendous legacy and they may well build a statue for him outside of the Prudential Center someday. He also left the franchise in a deeper hole than almost any team has been in the last 10 years, partially out of necessity, partially out of neglect. If the Devils can start winning, all of this stuff can hopefully go away, but I know it won't.

Big following over here.

I don't understand it, but there is.
England has rugby and American Football is a more developed version of that for the most part. Don't be fooled by the helmets and pads which have developed as the players have become bigger and faster. You are still trying to run a ball across the goal line or throw it across (that may not be ok in rugby?).

I wouldn’t say American Football is more developed than rugby. It’s meant to be more TV friendly (all the plays are visible as opposed to a rugby scrum) and more importantly more ads friendly with tons of interruptions.

Well it seems to have developed out of rugby. I'm not suggesting it's a better game, that is subjective and not all mutations are better despite what the comic books would have you believe. The interruptions and TV elements came much later of course.

Leafs fan here - out of curiosity who is most likely to get waived, if anyone?
Among NJ forwards? If the fan sentiment means anything it would be Tatar or Johnsson. Knowing how NHL teams operate though they may try to sneak Zetterlund through waivers if he doesn't have a camp that takes up from where he left off last season and I doubt he makes it down to the AHL. Alternatively, I believe they can keep all the waiver eligible forwards and just not have any extra defenders on the opening night roster? One wild card that still seems a bit unresolved is whether McLeod is embroiled in the Hockey Canada scandal. If he is that won't end well and he would likely have his contract terminated which would mean an extra forward has to replace him. He is polarizing player putting aside his potential involvement in the scandal. A plurality of NJ fans won't miss him if he is gone.

It looks like a shitty screen grab so I'm hoping it's just black

This team has sucked for a decade. Am I really asking too much for them to not insult us with blue on their uniforms?
Is blue really owned by the Rangers? Red white and blue as a color scheme seems pretty generic to me for any US based team. Adding a bit of blue trim as some sort of callback to KC is meh to me but they must have some reason they want to try it? The Jersey Jersey was made fun of but I guess it was campy enough that it sold decently?

The Islanders are blue and I hate them too. The Devils whole gimmick is Black and Red, don't think I'm asking much to not include blue on our jerseys. I'm pre conditioned to absolutely hate the color blue.

Hell even if the season ticket memberships are called Black and Red...

you know the Devils didn't design these

right?

Plus we haven't even seen them yet....

f*** Adidas then. Might as well throw the whole team straight into KC Scouts jerseys, at least the shit on the ice will look just as bad as the jerseys then.

So awesome that we are honoring a trash team that won a whopping 17 games out of 160 and has absolutely nothing to do with the state of New Jersey besides being so dog shit that they had to move.

sir this is a Wendy's

More like a message board where I can bitch and moan about how many stupid decisions and embarrassing moments we have to deal with for this once great franchise.

Congrats on using a meme from way over a decade though, almost as embarrassing as our New Jersey Devils having to wear blue.

I look at some of the atrocious jerseys other teams have had and the Devils having a blue logo on a jersey seems pretty far down the list. Pretty much every other sport has multiple jerseys (some with colors that have absolutely nothing to do with their regular color scheme). The NHL is actually behind in that regard. Adidas might actually be the least of our worries if somebody like Fanatics, with their cheaply made garbage, gets the license.

i’ve been reading Gretz’s substack since he got let go by NBC. His Devils post was today, and while i don’t think there’s anyone around here that sugarcoats the last 10 years, i think it’s easy to forget just how bad it’s been. This is a hell of a depressing opening paragraph.

Perhaps I missed something, but Buffalo hasn’t even made the playoffs since 2011.

So how has every other team other than Seattle won at least 4 playoff games? Something is off here. Buffalo didn’t even make the dopey play-in bubble bullshit year like stupid Arizona did, which is when all of their playoff wins since then came.

He mentions Seattle as an exception because that’s obvious.

He also likely looked up how many playoff wins each teams had and forgot Buffalo existed.
