We actually went 8-0-1 before losing the regular season finale after we had already clinched.

The game before that 8-0-1 stretch started was in San Jose, where Cory got the start and sunk us early with 3 or 4 bad goals before getting pulled. That was Cory's fourth start of the month and since returning from injury and he was bad in all of them. Hynes didn't put him back in until the season finale after we had clinched.

Hynes really does deserve credit for rolling with Kinkaid in that period. Not only after that Sharks game, but even before that in the month of March.

A lot of coaches would have leaned on Schneider because of what he was or used to be and we would have missed the playoffs because of it.

I need to a Lou autobiography one day to read. We know a decent amount about him and the way he works but he's such an interesting figure. Would be an awesome book for sure.
It would take forever for him to write, hunt and pecking on his manual typewriter.

Clack....

Clack...

Clack...

Wonder if he believes in whiteout, or if he re-types an entire page if he makes a typo.

No way he types anything himself. Gets someone to type shit for him . Then that person “goes missing “ after a few months and a new person is hired . No way he trusts anyone to keep stuff confidential lol.

Lou absolutely deserves his flowers from the org.

Terrible post 2012 years aside, the guy was such an incredible figure in Hockey. He is The Manager, I've always likened him to Sir Alex Ferguson (for any football fans here). The only blemish is that Sir Alex knew when to go out on a high, Lou didn't.

When he gets tossed by the Islanders next offseason, I would gladly take him here in a ''Celebratory'' role, which is something he did not want to take back in 2015 and that's why he's still a GM in the NHL right now.

I don't want him anywhere near making any kind of meaningful or impactful decisions, but I think if he's here in some kind of role that isn't GM or president of hockey ops or director of scouting (nothing that has direct impact on our every day hockey operations or future) then I'd take him back and I think ownership would too.

I don’t see him coming back here.

The only thing I wonder about after Lou retires is what happens to this guy:

If Lou stays with the Islanders then Chris can stay with the Islanders.

It just angers me that it’s been 10 years since we’ve played meaningful hockey and won a playoff series. Like that’s ridiculous. I’m a frustrated fan, it’s time to contend for the playoffs. I couldn’t care less about who’s in the top 10 in next year’s draft. It’s time to start winning games

I agree with you. It has been 10 years. @NjDevsRR is right however, that the stretch from Feb to April was WILD. I want that feeling again.

Until then, we'll just have to sit here and let the statisticians tell us about what could happen next year with this or that improvement. My favorite part will be when I'm asking yall again for Netflix recommendations by December 1.

Well, he was there before Lou, which I had actually forgotten about until you pointed that out a few weeks back.

But yeah, he'll probably be ousted too, as he's the AGM and the new GM will wanna bring in his own new partner. I knew he was with the Islanders before Lou, but didn't realize he was the assistant GM for an entire year before Lou got there and Garth Snow was still the GM. He's listed as director of player personnel for the Islanders in 16-17 and assistant GM/GM of Bridgeport in the years since.

A guy like him should have no problems finding a job in the league doing something, if not just as a scout somewhere. He did go the entire 15-16 season without a job though, as he's not listed as part of any team staff for that year.

I’m not sure what the hell to think about the up coming season (expectations).
I have had optimism crushed the past two off-seasons heading into the season , so I am hesitant to get my hopes up at all.
Comparippng our rosters to others in our divison , it’s hard to not think we stack up decently with other teams… it’s hard not to be biased but when you break it down player by player, we SHOULD be a WC contender but… its hard to be optimistic when we have been out of the playoffs before Christmas two years in a row.
I still feel we need to construct the roster better but we have the skill or at least the assets in hand to tweek the roster to be stacked (once Hughes Nemec Holtz Gritsyuk are here ). Anyways .. I am excited but nervous for the upcoming season. It’s not going to happen but I’d really like to add one more forward in the top 6 but we have waaaay too many forwards as it is already and no easy way to make cap room this year.

About that time again in the off-season huh
Yeah, so..... Is it possible that this is the year that Kovy finally returns to the Devils?

He's still got a f***in hell of a shot and can bring that veteran leadership and experience we need on a still young team.

Maybe he's that missing piece to really push us into the playoffs and beyond?

Crazy to think that he would still have 3 years remaining on that contract.

Loved him in 2012. Electrifying player.

over the past 2 seasons, there are 172 forwards who have played at least 1,500 minutes at 5 on 5.

Jack Hughes' CA/60 is 51.11, which is good for 39th best out of those 172

Jack is never going to be John Madden (though I bet you wish he was), but his defensive 'deficiencies' are far over blown

Moved this here rather than further hijacking the Luke Hughes thread.

Conversation has pretty much gone in circles.

No idea what the latest cherry picked numbers are supposed to suggest. But doubt they paint a complete picture.

And the Madden comment is simply superfluous.

They are supposed to suggest that he is not a terrible defensive player as you implied? When he is on the ice, the opponent is generating chances less often than the average forward.

You are acting as if this dude is incompetent defensively, when the numbers say otherwise. He is also tremendous at taking the puck away from the other team.

our defensive system was shit, let's judge when the team is actually more stable (this yr)
I think our new assistant hires will have a larger impact on our overall success than a person thinks.
Adding Palat , Marino and healthy Blackwood and Vanacek on top of that and I think we will have better structure and approach than last season .
