If Johnsson gets hot at the right time, I can see him going to a playoff team.
How can he get hot if he's going to be riding the bench? He doesn't have a shot to play in the top 6 or the top 9. His only chance to crack the team is on the 4th line and even that's iffy imo.

I say this as not a supporter of Johnsson being in the lineup, but just as a realist, I don’t think it’s a sure thing that he’s waived or even a healthy scratch.

I think he’s just who we want to get waived/be a healthy scratch. And as we’ve learned over and over again and throughout the years, who we want waived and or scratched isn’t always who gets waived/scratched.

I really think what they’ll do with Johnsson can go either way.

I think you're in for quite surprise when this team takes the ice.

Injuries will happen and I trust him over any of the in-between rookies. I actually prefer him to Tatar, but I'm one of few maybe..

The Devils' rookies play tonight right?
Yes. They’re playing Montreal who played last night. I expect Montreal to have better timing with passes and such since they’ve had some game time.

The game is streaming on the Devils website and I would also guess on YouTube but only the website was announced.

Question that maybe was answered on here but I didn't see the little I looked.

I was on stubhub today and they have the devils player bench listed where the vistor bench was. did they move them?

This has to be a mistake because all season tickets in the balconies would need price adjustments.

LeBrun on Devils pursuing Gaudreau:

And, yes, the Devils made an offer, although I don’t think it was the kind of double-digit average-annual-value offer that would have closed the deal. The Devils were still trying on it when they got the news, like the rest of us, that Gaudreau had chosen the Blue Jackets.

Regarding Tkachuk:

But I think the more interesting nugget I came across this week as I tried to play catch up after some offseason time away, was that the Devils also tried pretty hard on trading for Matthew Tkachuk.

The Devils had a number of discussions with the Flames about it. But in the end, as I reported in my Flames offseason piece this past week, Calgary was given a specific list of teams by Newport Sports to which Tkachuk would agree to a sign-and-trade.

I believe those teams were Colorado, Tampa Bay, Florida, Carolina, Vegas and St. Louis. So the Devils ultimately couldn’t get into that derby.

And that’s OK. This Devils team will turn a corner led by its young core of Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes and Dawson Mercer. And getting more saves this season.

But I would keep an eye on the Devils again for next offseason. They’ve got up to $25 million in potential expiring UFA contracts that could come off the books. They’ll want to re-sign some of those players, but still, there’s big-time cap flexibility coming if that’s what the Devils want.

its funny at the start of the story it mentions how the devils were in on the two guys but didn't land them for stated reasons. then at the end of the story but wait! next year we have 25 million in cap space to be rejected again lol. i know whats done is done but man getting one of the two johnny or matt would've changed this team bigly

No surprise on either, really; seems clear Gaudreau had no desire to come here, so unless the Devils jumped instantly to something like $12 million a year it just wasn't happening, and the Flames wanted to maximize their return and so wanted to make sure Tkachuk got sent somewhere he'd sign. Is what it is.

Devils have shown they can net some decent free agents right now, and if they do really turn the corner this year like a lot of people are expecting it should get much simpler to sell guys on "Getting to play with Hughes and the kids sounds pretty good, right?"

I mean, good. I wouldn't want to be paying Gaudreau 10M+ per year with all of kids coming up for new contracts, and I would love to have signed Tkachuk to the contract he signed in Florida, but if he wasn't going to sign with us, then...

You have been saying for ages 'who cares about the cap!!1' and now the Devils are capped out. It happens sooner than you think (which, if I'm being honest, would always be true).
