Don't really care how we get him back, we just need him back.

Would be incredibly depressing for him not to be a Devil for at least the next 4 years
Need him or what? A player like Alexander Holtz might have an opportunity to play top six minutes?

The Devils may lose games?

They've been doing that for five years WITH Jesper.

I think they're much more inclined to open up the checkbook and give Bratt a long term deal next year:

1.) Much more cap space
2.) Coming off two good years makes it easier to commit
3.) Eats up more UFA years

It'll cost more to do a long term deal next year but I think we'll not only be more eager to pay him more, but feel much more safe about doing it.

Obviously they both know where each other stand on a long term deal. I think this arbitration is more of a "franchise tag" year than anything else, just buying time to get the real deal worked out.
Maybe we’re getting played and both Fitz and Bratt are like “yeah let’s get you a 1-year deal and next year with more cap space we’ll sign you to a huge deal” lol.

What makes you think that a THIRD round of negotiations will be a good thing after seeing how the first 2 rounds have gone?

Getting 1 year in arbitration and then Being 1 year from UFA means he could almost hold the team hostage. If this gets to arbitration, that is the absolute WORST case scenario for the Devils.
Like someone said above, if he has another stellar year its easier for Fitz to pay the dollar. I think currently Bratt just hasnt been consisten enough to warrant over 7.5m/year long term contract.

My personal guesstimate is that Fitz has something in the lines of 5.8-6.5m/year long term on the table. Bratt would have probs already signed anything long term that begins with a 7m/year. For his quality of life it doesnt mean shit if he makes 7 or 7.5 a year.

But why do that?

If we really wanted to offer Bratt some huge deal, like the 9m x 8y I mentioned (that extra mil is enough to almost cover skipping to UFA to a tax-free team on a 9m x 7y deal) then we could have just not qualified Wood.

Wood is damaged goods who, without being cleared to play, wont even fetch a third rounder. If the need for cap to sign Bratt was there, hed have easily been dropped and made a UFA.

Sad too because I love Wood and Bratt. But sadly, idt the likelihood of us going 1-year to then renegotiate is realistic at all. Seems like a very poor move on Fitzgerald's behalf, if true

but they played on bad teams so they can't possibly be good?!

At least by your logic, of course.
And only Norris makes over $7 million.

And he's a center. Not a wing.

As are by the way Hughes and Hischier (to address another post where it is suggested their contracts should be the framework for Jesper's).

again, the market says differently. And again, I think this opinion is wrong anyways.

if the Devils are offering a longterm (6-8) year deal at ~$6 million/year, everyone should be fired tbh. Thats an absurd contract that would never be accepted.

If Bratt has "another stellar year" all the parameters change and we are talking level of salary.

Brady Tkachuk is a winger and he makes $8.2 aav and he is a worse player than Jesper Bratt in every way.

Kevin Fiala just had a similar year to Bratt and signed a new deal for $7.8 aav. He is also a winger.

Again, I don't think you really understand how this stuff works.

Jesper Bratt doesn't even play the same sport as Brady Tkachuk and that comparison is laughable.

Fiala is coming off an 86-poimt season and has scored 20 or more goals four times in his career.

I have to give you credit. You're a loyal fan and you put your heart into your team.

But the facts aren't on your side. Though you're probably the kind of fan the Devils owners prefer.

Can you fill me in on Fiala’s points per game versus Bratt?

Fiala has been in his prime for a couple more years so I assume it must be much higher since Fiala has been much more productive and is older.

If you notice, basically everyone is disagreeing with what YOU are saying... Brady Tkachuk is actually a great case study. Was a 35-40 point WINGER for the first 3 years of his career then got a longterm contract for over $8 million AAV. Thats a fair deal to you, but yet Bratt at even $7 is bad...for some reason?

let me guess, because hes 6'4'' and Jesper Bratt is a smol boi, you love Brady!!

Jesper Bratt is a MUCH Better overall player than Brady Tkachuk. In basically every aspect of the sport.

The funny thing is, is he never came close to 30 points/ game lol
I am definitely the kind of fan the owners prefer...You should see my bar bill.

My error. Misread the Minutes Played column as poimts. He was, however, the team's leading scorer.

And like Bratt, many of his points came when the outcome of games were no longer in doubt.

We've reached the point in the conversation where we are comparing Jesper Bratt to 1970s NBA players. Love it.
Yeah at least Kendall Gill would have been a bit more contemporary (by a generation)

But it's also foolish to just assume that oh guy had great stats on a losing team, so they're automatically empty calorie numbers.

You're right

He sucks

Just do away with him. He hasn't done shit to help us win.

We would be much better off bringing in real winners like David Rittch and John Hynes. They made the playoffs last year, so they must be true winners.
