The Devils have a culture of failure
Skating. Why uneasy? That kid is an incredible package of size and skill.

This would never happen, but I wonder about trading #2OA to the Rangers for Laf.
Personally, if I’m Fitz, I pull the trigger on that.
Good problem to have.Beyond Zacha and Johnsson, you're going to have to package some of these young guys pretty soon. Zetterlund, Foote, Thompson, Clarke, Stillman, let alone anyone else who hits.
But no production. Why uneasy? That kid is an incredible package of size and skill.
Skating.
It isn’t no production. His production has been much better since he’s actually gotten some opportunity. Context is so important. He wasn’t getting much opportunity but still showed his skillset and looked good. He had a huge Olympics, and then also starts getting more opportunity with his team and he started producing. But no production.
I understand there’s context.
But, at what point does context = excuse?
Personally, I think the Devils need a double or a triple out of this, they don’t need to hit a home run. I’d trade the pick for a solid high end prospect with limited bust potential (but also limited superstar potential). E.g., Laf, Kakko. I need to spend more time with other teams prospects to identify realistic candidates - but you get the point.
The lack of production from Slaf, to me, is too much of a red flag.
But no production.

Don't offer sheets involve giving up multiple first-rounders for a player or am I misunderstanding how it works? So you are concerned about lack of production out of Slafkovsky and instead you want Lafrienere or Kakko.
Kakko can be signed to an offer sheet. Would much rather attempt that than trade for him.

Yeah.... In that hypothetical scenario, I doubt the Rags let the Devils one-up them here, though it's a funny thought if the Devils called their bluff...and the Devils ended up with both Hughes *and* Kakko in the end. lol.
You could offer sheet Kakko at 4.1M and only give up a 2nd. I think the Rangers would match though.

I won't dismiss that in any way...It is a valid concern. But no production.

That’s not a battle I want to start…we’re going to have a hard time paying all of these blue-chippers down the road.
You could offer sheet Kakko (or Puljujaarvi) at 4.1M and only give up a 2nd. I think the Rangers/Oilers would match though.
No. Go away.Debrincat for Holtz and 2nd overall

Go home. You’re drunk, sir.Debrincat for Holtz and 2nd overall

An all too early look at our dream offseason! Here it goes
1. HIRE: Barry Trotz as Head Coach. Mitch Corn as goalie coach. Let Trotz decide his assistant coaches.
2. TRADE: Alex Holtz + Pavel Zacha to Minnesota for Kevin Fiala + 2022 3rd round pick.
3. TRADE: The 2nd overall pick to Florida for goaltender Spencer Knight + rights to Mason Marchment. If Florida declines, draft one of Slafkovsky, Cooley, Jiricek, or Nemec. (At this juncture, I do not have a preference)
4. TRADE: Tomas Tatar or Andreas Johnsson and Janne Kuokkanen anywhere.
5. RE-SIGN: Jesper Bratt - 6 years, 6.85 million AAV.
6. RE-SIGN: Wood, Boqvist, Zetterlund to new contracts.
7. RE-SIGN: Damon Severson to a contract extension - 5 years, 5.5 million AAV.
8. SIGN: Kevin Fiala - 6/7/8 years, 7.25-7.75 million AAV.
9. SIGN: Mason Marchment - 3 years, 3-3.5 million AAV.
10. SIGN: Valeri Nichuskin - 5/6 years, 4.5-5.25 million AAV.
11. SIGN: Veteran RHD to a 1 year contract.
12. ACQUIRE: A goaltender if Spencer Knight is not attainable.

Yeah that would make the Taylor Hall trade look fairIt would take the worst GM in the history of sports to trade the second overall pick for Spencer Knight and the rights to Mason Marchment.
Holtz and Zacha for Dach, prospects Regula and Soderblom, and Chicago's first rounder in the next draft.Debrincat for Holtz and 2nd overall
