If you listen to his exit interview it's obvious he's waiting to see the results of this season. So if he signs it's not going to he until later on when he has an idea of how competitive we are & that's only if we take the next step. He said he likes it here & want's to stay but he made it clear from his quotes he is tired of being on a losing team. I'll read off a few of his quotes & it's obvious what he is thinking. "We're a young team, is no longer acceptable", "The rebuild is over", "We can no longer blame our problems on age, that has to be in the rear view mirror", “Next year if we’re standing here talking this time of year while other teams are gearing up for the playoffs, it would be a huge disappointment.” So yeah for Severson he's basically saying put up or shut up. Either we finally take the next step or I'm out. Which is why I've been so adamant on getting a real coach this year. If we lose Severson next year oh boy that will be another large hole to fill. It's like the cartoon you plug up one water hole just for 2 more to appear. That's why it's very important we must ditch this loser mentality.

Well he better step up himself then. He was part of the problem imo. Don't bitch about losing all the time and then doing nothing about it. And yes, i realize he did much better this past season but idk, still not really enough imo for someone who's going to stay or leave based on how the team does (if that's even true).

lol I dont understand all this josh anderson discourse. He has 5 years left at 5.5 million and is 28 years old and just put up 32 points in 69 games averaging 17 minutes per game. Johnsson and Tatar put up similar numbers with third line minutes. This is the type of player that in like 2 or 3 years you'd be paying to ship out. Devils could use a powerforward type but that player actually would have to be a great top 6 player to be worth it. And then a long term contract on top of it - no way, I wouldn't want the Devils to sign Anderson 5 years at 5.5 million if he was a UFA this year, let alone trade assets for it.

it was a dumb contract when it was signed and is still a dumb contract. I'd much rather acquire someone like Lawson Crouse for a fraction of the price.

I want no part of Anderson . Even if traded to us with a minor asset attached.

He hits people and scores goals. He cannot pass at all. This is the kind of deal that when it is dealt, it is typically dealt for a shorter deal that also sucks.

Josh Anderson is just a right-shooting Miles Wood who didn't stop hitting people. No interest.

Even more hilarious to me is that they think Mailloux has any value. Come on now, everybody didn't just forget because it's been another year. He was radioactive at the draft, and he's still radioactive now.

I'm one that's been trying to subscribe and can never get the page to load. Obviously it's not overly important for me to call in or anything but I wanted to subscribe to support having dedicated Devils coverage.

I'm from Kansas (I don't like Denver or St Louis teams so picked the Devils over the more local ones based on the Kansas City Scouts when I first started getting into hockey as a kid) so NJ.com would be strictly for Ryan/Devils content for me.

I've tried using Safari, Chrome, Brave and all browsers have the same issue.
You know what?

Out of curiousity, I signed out of my account and went and clicked on "subscribe" and I keep getting the rotating circle with "loading" underneath with nothing else happening.

So perhaps it's a Website issue.

I wonder if NJ.com can't handle all the Devils fans attempting to sub thanks to Ryan?

I guess I was one of the fortunate ones who got to sub before the website went crappy when it came to subbing.

Maybe he's waiting to see what we do in goal? Severson really fired shots at the goaltending this year in the interview on the final post game of the season.

And I say good for him. Somebody other than some random guy (me) on a message board really needed to do it.

He knows his big UFA opportunity is coming up next summer. There's no rush for him to get a deal done right now.

I don’t understand, are people wondering why Severson hasn’t already signed an extension?

Severson can’t sign an extension until July 13. It’s not even supposed to be negotiated until the final season on his current deal begins.

The NHL league year begins on free agency day (you used to be able to just say July 1st but it’s been screwy for a while now).

I have like 10 Guy pics in my photo bucket account from years and years ago.

That was either back before I just learned how to upload pics into posts and though I needed a photo bucket account, or maybe the old forum format didn’t have the capability of uploading them from my phone or computer and straight into a post?

Columbus gets 2, we get 6 an mtl gets 12 in the one I saw going around but yeah we end up with Anderson as well. I just can't wait for draft day, make the pick and move on
I'd love to trade the second overall pick for an oft injured 30-40 point player who is four years removed from his best season and is still signed for four more years.

I would absolutely take Bear

I like him, but I don't want him here if Severson and Hamilton are going to be here. A young player like that should go somewhere where he has opportunity - the Devils are not likely to spend a lot on a 3rd pairing RHD.

I'll take Anderson... straight up for Johnsson, and only if Montreal also sends the #26 overall pick as a sweetener. He's a salary dump. The idea the Devils would consider him a major piece in a trade for the #2 overall draft pick is pretty funny.

Devils need to be on Ethan Bear for 3RD. Something around Ty Smith.

You dont re sign Severson if Bear is better.

That’s a f***ing awful deal for us. He’s making 5.5 FOR THE NEXT 5

While I agree MTL fans over value Anderson, all the other fanbases seem to under value him. There's a reason why multiple teams are interested, the guy brings alot of intangibles that teams covet. While his contract length has red flags, he's certainly not negative value like some here are suggesting. He's far from perfect but his speed, physicality and goal scoring touch looks like a good fit with alot of the smaller pass first players we have on our team. Kinda like that Fitz quote about "different types of players" you guys been preaching. I don't think the price for him will be right, but I'm def in on trading Johnsson for him, not like he's bringing back anything else.

It's not the fact he's not a good player. It's his awful contract. No way I want to pay a 3rd liner 5.5 mill for the next 5 years. It would be one thing if it was a 2 year deal or something.
