That's right, thanks. I forgot about the absurd pricing. $10 a game? $30 a month? I'll stick with FuboTV for the season.

I don't know why they don't offer team subscriptions instead. Make it $15 a month for the season when whatever team is playing. Give a discount if you sign up for two teams, like $20 a month if you watch an nhl team and the Knicks.

Plus they have basically 0 summer programming that warrants $30 a month so maybe that's why they are doing that.

All of this is about figuring how how to maximize producer surplus at the expense of consumer surplus. The transition to internet streaming for a while was a great deal for consumers because corporations were more interested in acquiring a user base / market share than maximizing the profits but those days are over. The user bases are pretty much established and now it's about squeezing them.

The rights holders are going to experiment with multiple tiers in order to extract as much money as possible from the hardcore fans while still having free/ad supported content for the casuals. The end result will be confusing and frustrating and expensive for consumers for the foreseeable future I fear.

I'd be willing to pay $X to a single service to get every game, on a single service, with some premium add-ons (multiple camera angles, second screen stat analysis, removal of digital ads whatever) but I don't know when if ever that's going to happen.

Well there's definitely a line that should never be crossed. And integrity should always be kept...but pushing buttons, maintaining order, being demanding even of arbitrary rules...I see nothing wrong there. A little verbal gymnastics is a good thing.

Verbal gymnastics is what got Babcock in hot water in my view. I understand it’s not a normal word place and it’s not an easy job. Yes they will push buttons. The question in todays world is how much button pushing is acceptable.

In my view there should be no limits. Seriously.

It's just another form of training. If the player can't handle an over bearing and aggressive coach how the hell is he going to handle a game 7 mentally?

It's all part of the program. You push buttons with a goal in mind or at least that's the way it should be.

At the very least the coach gets to learn pretty quickly who has the mental fortitude and who does not

We are old. Today’s player has different expectations. As for game 7 NJ did ok against the Rangers. If you need a coach insulting you to play well that’s on the player. The coach needs authority and buy in. It will be up to younger people to decide how far to go in that direction before it’s over the line.

I was saying people tried (and some still are to an extent) to downplay Babcock as just an old guy who was socially awkward and not as the controlling bully he is. Ftorek wasn’t a bad guy at heart afaik, he just did stupid crap trying to be tough enough to coach that made everyone roll their eyes.
Okay.

Thanks for clarifying.

New Jersey did well in game 7 almost exclusively from the older more mature players. Go figure with the young super stars we got an empty netter from Bratt in a 4-0 win

Scoring Summary
2nd Period
09:53 NJD SH Michael McLeod (1) Ondřej Palát
15:39 NJD Tomáš Tatar (1) John Marino, Nico Hischier
3rd Period
14:27 NJD Erik Haula (4) Jack Hughes, Ondřej Palát
16:41 NJD EN Jesper Bratt (1) John Marino

Today's players are richer earlier...and that's largely why authority has been subverted.

Seriously half the time you address me, I don't know what you are talking about.

Don't know how many years Lindy wants to coach, but he reasonably has a chance to end up 3rd on the all-time coaching wins list with two more seasons. Maybe even 2nd if he gets frisky enough to coach 3 more years.

It was mentioned before, but when you look at the power dynamic bullshit that Babcock pulled on younger players, it makes you grateful at least to have a guy like Lindy behind the bench who has his players' ears and respect. It's too easy for older, veteran coaches to try and establish their power simply by their age and experience. So I'm appreciative of how he has brought these guys along in his tenure here.
tbh, I think if the Devils win the Cup, he may start thinking about retirement. (not necessarily that he WOUJLD but just start thinking about his future)

Just a feeling I have....

Man's been around the block a loong ass time here and winning it all after such a long time coaching would be like lifting a boulder the size of NJ off his back.

McLeod isn’t old. I watched the gane too. Palat was what they hoped for. Everyone else did fine. The young team won, I agree players getting paid earlier has changed the dynamics.

McLeod didn't really do much on the goal but poke it in...Palat did everything

3:27 starts the McLeod goal.

That 23 year old goalie who got a shutout in that game 7 sure is old!! Also not a shocker he glosses over Jack getting a primary on the dagger
Glosses over an assist on the 3rd goal with 3 minutes left of a 4-0 game...lol ok

My hidden agenda has been foiled! Darn you meddling kids!

As to the Ring of Honor.

I personally think the reason it has taken so long is because they thought Lou would be out of Hockey to put him as the second person inducted into the Ring of Honor.

I dont think they are going to go players yet, i think they are going to do some builders first.

I think a guy like Pat Burns is a good option. Maybe Jacques Lemaire as the all time winningest coach in Devils history.

Of course they could just decide to get Lou up there anyway. The Islanders are off that night and it’s a Saturday game.
I think it has to be Lou. Lou never retiring has held up adding him to the ring of honor.

There was a zero % chance they would do this when our team was still losing/rebuilding and Lou’s team was in the playoffs.

We broke out and the fans our in the honeymoon phase with Fitz, it’s time for them to get it done.

You don’t put GMs on banners.

Sam Polluck doesn’t have banner in Bell Centre.

The Islanders have a banner for Al Arbour with “1500” and not Bill Torrey.

Keith Allen was the 3rd inductee to the Flyers Hall of Fame, after Parent and Clarke, but he doesn’t get a banner. (Ed Snider did get one, but not a GM, and plus they built a cultish worship around that guy.)

GMs work behind the scenes, their legacy is honored with the banners already up there. That’s why they’re “builders” in the HHofF.

Banners are for the guys winning games on the ice.

Maybe can look forward to the Nashville Predators putting up a David Poile banner though.

Chico is a slam dunk. Doc seems very likely.

Not sure after that. All three Cup coaches at once? One at a time? Just Lemaire? IDK
