Im wondering if Friedman knows something we don't

I say that because who normally questions what a team is doing in net when their two goalies posted good numbers and are cheap?

Not often you see that...

These were not good stats. Dropping from .911 reg season to .825 in the playoffs is not a recipe for success. That's something you rectify if possible with a proven playoff goalie.

Something to consider; our roster is absolutely stacked but we still have room for a couple of role-players to round out the bottom six & bottom defensive pairing. We're basically a guaranteed cup contender at this point, so while we obviously can't afford any significant additions in free agency, there will absolutely be players willing to take a discounted short term deal to come chase a cup with us.

Filling out those depth spots on the cheap becomes a lot easier when you are an attractive proposition in terms of competitiveness. Plus with the cap projected to soar starting next year, more & more players will likely be looking to bide their time on 1-year deals and go back into free agency again next season.

I know people are penciling in Boqvist, Foote, Bahl etc for depth roles, but I think we may have a couple of surprise pickups yet.

on 4th liners, its always about term. Because for the most part they all have a "ceiling" of what they actually can realistically make.
Thats a fair point; wasnt coming at it from that angle

Personally I wouldnt mind Mikey on a 3-4 year deal at 1.75 - he personally won us at least 2-3 overtimes this year, among many other crucial draws

The fact that they went 7D and played him as one of their 3 centers big minutes made me think they see him a core player moving forward potentially.
But they've leaned on him pretty heavily for years now. Moreso a couple years back when he was young and playing some very tough minutes. Once it appeared he was not going to be a legit top 6 level offensive player they decided to groom him as a defensive center. There's been ups and downs but he's still only 25 and it's a tough job.

The playoffs were interesting in that, one wonders if that was a stepping stone going into next year, a thing where his game is best suited for the playoffs, or merely a flash of good play? Of course I'm of the opinion that the first two possibilities are more likely then the 3rd.

Didn’t Lou sign a fourth liner on the islanders for absurdly long ?

Cizikas got 6 years 15 mil and has posted 16 goals in 2 years.
Problem there is Cizikas was 30 when he signed that deal.

Cizikas was also coming off a 2 year goal scoring heater which likely wasn't going to continue.

McLeod is 25, and the lack of goal scoring likely keeps his cost down. That's my thesis anyways.

Fitz saying that line about betting on nj winning players over and getting Timo without an extension in place 100% exactly what this place has become zero issue if they go that way with buck. Team is becoming a destination for players wanting to try and put together a winner. Tifoli even mentioning extension

Those goaltending comments are brutal lol

Vanecek has to be gone - no way Fitz would speak like thay about a goalie were keeping

Talk about no inspiration of confidence

I mean the guy knows he’s got a window to get something done here. You want to risk a year of it to find out that Vitek collapse in the playoffs again? Or put the trust in an unproven rookie schmid? Tough decisions for sure
