Tommy Fitz will go down as the best GM, in any sport, globally, since the dawn of time. Yes that is hyperbole, but my god he can do no wrong.

I can't think of a better GM in the metro area ATM.

There’s absolutely no way those guys get those numbers. For one, Fitzgerald has done a fantastic job at getting guys to take less. Also, I could see a few situations where the Devils give maybe 3 years to a guy like McLeod or Boqvist to give them security and keep the AAV down.

I’d probably have them at something like this:

McLeod 1.5 x 3
Bastian 1.25 x 2
Boqvist 1.25 x 2
Bahl 1 million x 2

On a shorter term McLeod would be more expensive. Boqvist on a cheap 3 year deal to give him security and take him right to UFA is also an interesting idea. Could make himself extremely valuable to the Devils when they get into more of a cap crunch.

Mcleod and bastian must be arb eligible. Guaranteed they get more or fitz will lose them

Dont see why he'd think he could ask for the extra 500k but well see

Everybody other than Bahl is arb eligible.

You won't get Mcleod at 1.5 for 3 for sure, that takes a year of UFA, I think. But I think 2x1.8 might get it done based on recent agreements.

I didn't create it. It's a short sighted trope from three years ago that certain posters floated to drag Hischier. Because of course a 20-21 year old never improves as we saw with Hischier who continues to produce at a 57 point pace for the past two years.

It always amazes me how predictable it is. Like these management teams are paid millions of dollars to make decisions that literally any fan of any team would tell you is comically bad.

But in another lens, if I am McLeod/Bastian, is there a much better situation for them elsewhere than staying here?

I’d argue both could see the value in taking a cheaper 2/3 year deal, be on a contending team, and look to cash in as a UFA at 27/28. If the Devils do well and go deep in the playoffs, they will be hot commodities come free agency.
