He is going to be a true assistant coach. I have no opinion on this.
Fitz has a pretty good idea of the fit he wants, but there's not a lot of get excited about with his coaching record. He was sub .500 as head coach of the Canucks, but went pretty deep into the playoffs in the one season his team made the post season. Prior to that he was head coach of the Utica Comets, so there may be some familiarity there as well.

meh, I don't think the two are as related as you think

the Devils bread and butter on offense at 5 on 5 is scoring off the rush, and that is obviously much less prevalent when you are on the PP since the defending team is already in their zone set up waiting for you.

we all want an improved PP, especially given what we saw down the stretch and in the playoffs, I just don't think it was THAT bad.
Overall, I do agree with you. There were some extremely frustrating times where it seemed like the PP could never even get set up or they never get a shot off, but for the most part I believe the PP struggles are exaggerated.

Yeah he said it wasn't true but his actions told a different story.

I mean you're most likely correct that it may indeed be media-driven but Fitz really (and seemingly) drew a line in the sand here with that contract. Combined with the report regarding Bratt being dealt if no deal was agreed upon, it looks like Fitz really did not want Bratt to make as much or more than Jack.

So having said that...

Do you believe that, as I just stated (as a hypothetical), if Hughes was making 9 million per year, Fitz would've ended up giving Bratt 8.8 per as opposed to 7.8?

I believe he would've, based on his actions and what we've heard.

(and I also saw a UFO outside my window) IT'S ALIENS, MAN.

This could be the case, too, that Fitz felt Bratt deserved Fiala's deal and not a penny more...and my whole Tin-Foil Hat Hughes argument (see above) goes out the window. :silly:

No? I mean, the alternate reality part of this question makes it weird but I’ve said the entire time that ~9m was too much for Bratt. And he didn’t get that, so Fitz agreed.

The threat about shopping him comes from the standing firm on a long term deal or nothing.

I agreed with that too, if he wasn’t willing to sign a long term deal at a number Fitz liked now he should have no interest in bidding for his services as a UFA 1-2 years from now.

We shouldn't move Sharangovich for a bottom pair D. Hamilton , Marino , Siegenthaler , Luke , Bahl , Smith is 7 NHL caliber Defensemen right there. What we should do is try to find a top 4 replacement for Graves if we can't keep him. Signing a Dman is pretty much a need at this point incase Bahl or Luke struggle and because injuries will happen at some point. Trading Sharangovich isn't a good idea IMO. He is in a contract year and we have him for cheap. Look for him to try to have a bounce back year. He's still a good middle 6 player , really doesn't play a 4th line style game whatsoever.
U listed 7 dmen.

Keeping Boq makes sense because he is cheap and I think the same goes for Shara.

Hes not as cheap but he is more productive.

Don’t think we need a top 4 lefty dman though. We are throwing Luke into the deep end. I think he’ll be good.

Fitz is a people person with coaches I guess. Not my favorite approach but whatever.

Edit: I guess @Triumph covered this. I got a clip art tho!

I thought he sucked as a head coach (and was overrated too) and I clearly remember most of their numbers got significantly better after Boudreau came in the first year. They clearly reverted back to that in Boudreau’s next year there.

Vancouver is arguably the most poorly run franchise from ownership on down, so it might not all be on him, but I don’t think he’s particularly good either.

I don’t really care if he’s an assistant, but he wouldn’t be nearly one of my first choices to replace Ruff as head coach.

I understand Green is a big Blackwood supporter and is already lobbying Fitz to sign Blackwood to a six year long top dollar extension.

I always thought Travis Green looked like a much younger brother or nephew to Dean Lombardi.

I am putting little into the results of the Canucks head coaching. I remember Canucks fans saying Vigneault was the worst, then Tortz was the worst, then Willie was the worst, then Green was the worst etc.

I'm curious what role Green will play. I trust Fitz and Ruff. Having a better PP this year has to be a major priority and if they think Green is the solution, let's definitely see what he can do.

Edit: Did a bit more of a deep dive and it seemed that Green's PK was a major factor in him getting fired. He shouldn't have anything to do with the PK behind the bench. He also lost Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli all in the same off-season. Losing three key players and fans saying Green was the problem seems odd.

Green was also the head coach for three straight Calder nominees. Sounds like he's great with young, talented players.

The more I'm reading, the more I like this hire.

2nd and 3rd slide, Jack and P.K. hanging out at the Montreal Grand Prix! Zegras, Caufield and Dubois also present. Not surprised with the American boys hanging out, but kind of weird having Dubois in the mix.

Not really team related but just thought I’d share lol. P.K. was at The Rock during the playoffs and still around the team and the guys apparently, that’s nice to see.

PK's still one of us! Love it, what a guy

PK Subban about the players he hangs out with….

AV is as bad as any of them, but they were still a really good team/roster when he was there. One of the most overrated coaches of the era.

Willie was probably the worst though. He was a joke. I’d have to think Rob Blake brought him in to interim in LA as a tank strategy.

Torts might have lost the room when he sat Luongo in the stadium game and there were other messes being made while Torts was there.

Him walking down into the Flames hallway and trying to fight Bob Hartley was also something that caused a huge scene and got him suspended from the team for a couple of weeks or so.

Random Travis Green anecdote: Joe Thornton played his last game as a Bruins against us. It was a tie game late in regulation and Boston defensive zone draw. Travis Green was a faceoff ace and taking it on his strong side but he got tossed from the dot. Thornton stepped in to take it (on his weak side) and John Madden won it clean back to Alexander Mogilny who scored. Always thought that was the final straw for Boston as they traded Thornton a day later.

I was at that game and it was glorious.
