the thought around here is his value is a late 2nd early 3rd which the Av's don't have. Behrens is obviously off the table and I'm guessing Foudy and Olausson are as well.

The only thing I can see is a potential RFA swap with Sharangovich and Newhook.

Makes sense, I’m sure there could be some form of trade to be found there. Whether that’s a mix of picks in a trade down/trade up scenario or OO for Sharan.

I like the idea of getting Henrique back.

Haula- Hughes- Meier
Palat - Rico/x - x/Rico
Bratt - Nico (3c) - Mercer
Wood/x- Mcleod?- Bastian
Rico could really solidify our 3rd line or play wing in the top 6. I could easily see Rico-Nico-Mercer being a great line. Could also see him resigning with us short-term.

Glad to see this. Timo’s deal will happen.
oh don't get me wrong.

I want Timo's deal to happen, too.

But I don't believe Fitz when he says that no contract affects the other because if that was true, he wouldn't have insisted that Bratt make less than Jack.

Jack's "bargain" deal affected what Bratt would make.

If Jack's deal was 9 million per year, Bratt would probably have a contract that was 8.85 mill instead of 7.85.

Sorry, I just don't buy this whole "Everyone has to make less than Hughes" BS. If that were true, why did they pay Hamilton $9 million/year? Why did they reportedly offer Gaudreau more than that last offseason? I think its media driven. Hell, the GM JUST TOLD YOU that it isn't true.

Yeah he said it wasn't true but his actions told a different story.

I mean you're most likely correct that it may indeed be media-driven but Fitz really (and seemingly) drew a line in the sand here with that contract. Combined with the report regarding Bratt being dealt if no deal was agreed upon, it looks like Fitz really did not want Bratt to make as much or more than Jack.

So having said that...

Do you believe that, as I just stated (as a hypothetical), if Hughes was making 9 million per year, Fitz would've ended up giving Bratt 8.8 per as opposed to 7.8?

I believe he would've, based on his actions and what we've heard.

(and I also saw a UFO outside my window) IT'S ALIENS, MAN.

At the same cap hit as his most comparable player and contract. :)

I don’t think it’s any deeper than that. Doesn’t mean that Bratt’s camp didnt push for more, but this deal makes complete sense based on Fiala’s production and contract he received.
This could be the case, too, that Fitz felt Bratt deserved Fiala's deal and not a penny more...and my whole Tin-Foil Hat Hughes argument (see above) goes out the window. :silly:

no, absolutely not and if that is how Fitz was operating (he isn't) he should be fired. That. a BS way to run the team.

We shouldn't move Sharangovich for a bottom pair D. Hamilton , Marino , Siegenthaler , Luke , Bahl , Smith is 7 NHL caliber Defensemen right there. What we should do is try to find a top 4 replacement for Graves if we can't keep him. Signing a Dman is pretty much a need at this point incase Bahl or Luke struggle and because injuries will happen at some point. Trading Sharangovich isn't a good idea IMO. He is in a contract year and we have him for cheap. Look for him to try to have a bounce back year. He's still a good middle 6 player , really doesn't play a 4th line style game whatsoever.

I like Shara, but his arbitration case is going to price him out of the Devils' middle-six, especially with the cheaper options they have around (Holtz, Clarke, Boqvist, Foote). He's looking at $2.5-$3M with his goal scoring profile, maybe a touch more.

I'd call Winnipeg about a Demelo for Rango swap. Some of their top forwards (Dubois, Scheifele, Wheeler) will be gone and the Jets want NHL-level replacements because they refuse to rebuild. Sharangovich gets them a younger forward back with team control.

Demelo would be a fantastic fit for the Devils blueline. Basically an older Marino - a great stop gap before Nemec is 100% ready and the ideal partner for Luke.

Had the exact same idea on a demelo swap. Mentioned it to beekay a couple of days ago

It obviously depends on the player, but if you feel you can get a quality RHD that will be better than your UFA options, I think it makes sense. If Forbort was a RHS, he’d be a solid target as a PK/defensive option on the third pair.

The UFA pool for defenders looks pretty mediocre. There’s a lot more intriguing options at forward.
